Great way to get to the beach or continue a bike ride along the southern lake shore drive without having to travel Blue Star highway. The ferry has priority crossing the river as well, so it's able to stick to its schedule for the most...More

This was a great, inexpensive little trip across the water for our grandsons. The young men who operated the ferry were great with the kids and even allowed them to try their hand and cranking the chain. We simply rode over and back. Kids loved...More

Another interesting view of the river and the Big lake. The day was very calm, Lake Michigan gorgeous. Easy going, a good captain and snack bar.

This was a fun experience as it’s the only chain ferry left in the US. It is also a good idea to take this if you are making a trip to Mount Baldhead or Oval Beach (assuming you can carry your stuff). It’s a short...More

We didn't ride the ferry, but sat in the park and watched, very interesting and the ride across was faster than I thought.

Crossed early to climb baldhead and run down to oval beach. Missed the first trip, so it was 15 minutes before we were across. Always fun to see the river from the ferry.

We went on the chain ferry. We went across on the ferry to get to Mount Baldhead. This is a must do for Saugatuck. It’s only $1 per person; bicycles and pets are free. You can crank if you really want to.

The chain ferry was a very practical way to get across the river to climb Mt. Baldhead. It was a very short wait, and only a buck a person.

Convenient way to cross the river. Went one afternoon then climbed up to Mt Baldhead Park and continued down the dunes to get to Oval Beach. Walked Perryman Rd back then another ferry crossing to downtown Saugatuck. Nice afternoon activity.

The only chain ferry in the USA. Takes a couple of minutes . $1 per person each way. Kids are allowed to help with the crank . Does not run on windy days. Good to park by baldhead stairs and then walk about 500 feet...More

Not directly. From "downtown" Saugatuck, it takes you to the other side of the river, where you have a hike (15-20 minutes) to Oval Beach. It's a bit up and down, so if you like to hike, it's perfect. If hiking ain't yo... More
