Strongly recommend doing the sunset cruise. It was a truly fabulous way to experience being on the water on a summer evening. The weather was perfect, unbeatable vistas and the crew were friendly and efficient. We definitely felt that we got our money's worth as the cruise was at a leisurely pace as the craft navigated it's way through the Kalamazoo River into Lake Michigan and back. Social distancing was observed by all and the ability to bring your own (BYOB) beverages/hors d'oeuvres was much appreciated in the time of COVID.

This was my second time sailing on the Serenity, and this time I brought 2 guests. I admired the safety measures for COVID-19, including a limited 50% capacity (there were 12 total, plus 3 crew), boarding us to assigned areas, use of masks and hand sanitizer for everyone. Crew was again so friendly and skillful. My adult son helped hoist one of the sails, and a little girl helped with another. Notable this time was a conscious pause by the captain, asking us all if we could be silent for just 1 minute and truly appreciate "serenity" out on the quiet lake. Wish I could have more meditative moments like that.

If you only do one adventurous thing during your stay in Saugatuck, be sure to experience the sunset sail at Sailing Saugatuck. It is worth the price. The captain and crew were experienced and friendly. The sailboat was clean and comfortable. Getting out onto Lake MIchigan and letting the sails fly was so enjoyable. Some members of our party even got to help lift the sails! The view of the sunset from the sailboat was beautiful and peaceful. Be sure to make your reservations in advance of your visit as seating fills up quickly. I appreciated the customer service demonstrated when the weather for the night we purchased tickets prevented the ship from sailing. We were contacted well in advance our our sail time and were given the choice of rebooking for another night or getting a full refund. Thankfully, we were able to rebook. Having now had the experience, I would have hated to miss it!

Nice way to spend a few hours on the water. There were about 20 people on the boat, recommend to get there early to get a good spot. They will give you water, soda and chips on board. Best part is its BYOB (and yes they have a wine opener). We went in the summer and it gets HOT on the dock and while heading out to the lake. recommended to bring a hat.

Staff is very friendly and easy going. Crew made it interactive by letting passengers raise and lower the sails (its a lot harder than it looks!)

Only 2 downsides:
Entire trip is about 2 hours. It takes about 30 minutes to get from the canal / dock to the lake. So you only get 1 hour on the lake itself. On the lake we mostly stuck close to the shoreline. So this is more for people who want a relaxing trip on the water and dont care about sightseeing.

There is a small bathroom on the boat, but only porta pottys on the dock. The dock is located very close to town and shops so if this isnt your thing stop by before getting there.

Overall we loved our time on the boat and would recommend this for people of all ages

Very impressed with Sailing Saugatuck. Knowledgable and fun staff. The most affordable way to get out onto the water. We did a lot of research! $40/person is very reasonable for a 2-hour sail! Very relaxing and beautiful ride. Lots of hand sanitizer and social distancing in place made us feel very safe during this time of COVID-19. Masks were encouraged when moving around the boat, but you could take them off once you were seated.

This sailing trip was the highlight of our 3 night visit to the area! Gale force winds had been recorded in the area earlier in the day, and before we embarked, captain Tim offered us a full refund if we wanted to cancel because he could not ensure that we could safely go out on the lake sails up due to winds and waves. Everyone chose to take a chance on the trip and we were not disappointed. The trip on the river was calm and picturesque, but wow things got very exciting when we got on the lake and they did put up the sails! It was very fun, and very exciting! The crew was very professional yet very engaging with the passengers. Really fun and very worth the price. Certainly the highlight of our trip and made memories that will last a lifetime.

We hopped on the Schooner Serenity expecting a nice evening cruise with a couple friends.....and we were blown away by our experience. We loved talking to the captain and crew about their years of tall ship experience while cruising down the Kalamazoo River. Then we got to Lake Michigan - we got to help haul the sails, then take a moment of "Serenity" as we listened to the wind as it pushed us through the gentle waves. We experiences an iconic West MI sunset on the water-- It was the perfect evening. Can't wait for our next trip!

Lovely boat. The crew was friendly and engaging. Loved our trip. Went on a day that was windy & the lake waves were too rough to safely take the boat onto Lake Michigan with a boat of tourists, plus one very pregnant passenger. Did a river sail which would have normally been a disappointment. But the crew made the experience fun, relaxing, and entertaining. I would definitely recommend this company, the owner was a great guy. Thanks again!

From the greeting at the dock throughout the entire experience the people were helpful, friendly and informative. Completely enjoyed our time on the boat. Due to an incoming storm we had to shorten our trip, but they refunded part of the fee. So glad we were able to at least do part of the trip, it was beautiful and relaxing, and felt completely safe in the context of COVID. Strongly recommend!

Excellent captain and crew. Schooner is well restored and maintained. We motored out onto the Saugatuck River and out the inner harbor to Lake Michigan. The views of the houses on the river banks is great. The inner harbor was full of boats at the docks and reading the different boat names was entertaining. Once out of the break water, the sails were raised and the captain set a southernly course on a comfortable reach, along the Michigan coast. Weather was excellent. Winds were 12 - 16 mph, waves were 2 -3 feet, visibility great and the sun was shining. The crew answered all questions. We came about and returned up the coast, where we dropped sails and motored back to the dock. Sailing time was approximately 1.5 hours, total trip was a little over two hours. I could have stayed out all day. Will return with others at a latter date.
