The beach is great. It's a bit of a hike, but you will be rewarded with great views, a a part of the lake that stays shallow quite a ways out. Don't go there for sandy dunes, though. Most of the dunes have vegetation. Go to Sleeping Bear if you want to climb up and down sand hills.

This is another of jewels in the Michigan State Park system. The park does charge the state park fee. (The recreational pass is one of the best deals in Michigan tourism. Ours was purchased at the same time we renewed the licenses for our vehicles.) The parking lot is small and does fill up. Make a stop at the pit... More

This place is huge. From the parking lot you take trails to the dunes. As we started up the trail, a family coming back told us not to go on. The dunes were about two miles up the wooded trail. So much for seeing these dunes. I wish I could tell you about the view - just too far for... More

This is a very nice park. The walk to the beach is long but very well marked. The map is an excellent tool to have to navigate the 6 - 8 trails. The beaches are very nice and not crowded what so ever. Will do it again when we return.

Beach was nice. However, we didn't realize that it was a mile hike to get to the beach. If you are looking just for a beach for swimming and playing in the sand, you may want to consider a different beach. However, if you don't mind walking, it would be fine. The hike was through the woods, so at least... More

I'm sure that this beach and surrounding trails are wonderful, however we could not enjoy them! No rangers, or hired help anywhere. The Gate and parking lot were on the honor system-no employees in sight. One person in my party has limited walking ability and we could not find any signage describing the trail types/length-or even where the beach was!... More

Beautiful state park, stopped here for a quick swim on the way home to the Chicago land area. 15 min hike in a pristine, quiet area, loved it. Not too crowded when we arrived either!

This was our first time visiting Saugatuck Dunes State Park. We were not prepared for the .6 mile hike to the water or we would not have brought so much with us for the afternoon at the beach. There is an outhouse before you arrive at the water which was nice. The water was warm and clear and the sand... More
