The beach has come back again this year now that the lake levels are receding. There is a steep dune to climb down (the stairs were washed away by the lake previously and not yet rebuilt) and back up so be aware. So beautiful a view though from up high!!!!!!! Lots of beach to walk on. It does get crowded in the summer and if you want to go on the weekend you better get there well before noon or you won't get in until much, much later in the day. All West Michigan beaches fill up fast on the weekends. . . . .the water fluctuates and some days it is clear and beautiful and some it appears cloudy . . .it just depends on how the current is flowing . . .. you can't use your State park pass to get in b/c this is a County park . . . we don't usually go here until after Labor Day when tourists are gone and fees are done for the summer . . . ..

We visited early June and the crowds were not overwhelming. Oval Beach has easy access as well as restrooms. It costs $10 per car for a day pass. The earlier you arrive, the better options of parking and beach space. The area was clean. It is a great place to take in views of the sunset.

This beach is a city beach so expect to pay $10. Parking is close to the beach. There’s public bathrooms although they close at 7pm. Sand is soft and the beach is very clean. No dogs or alcohol allowed. Overall, my friends and I had a great time visiting.

For $10 a car, this beach should be able to have their restrooms cleaned every 2 hours, especially with Covid around. The rest areas were disgusting, with only two working toilets (one was overflowing with pee and toilet paper, with a lame “caution” tape around the flusher). There was actual poop on the floor, and I witnessed a child walk through it barefoot. So did the mother, who quickly took her soon to the outdoor showers. There are no indoor showers and only two small changing rooms that are only covered with a pathetic curtain that looks about 20 years old. Only two outdoor showers, so people have to wait in line to take turns. A group of four staff were gathered around a 4-wheeler talking, but no one was wearing masks. I’ve been going to this beach for years and I’ve never seen the facilities looking clean. No wonder Covid is on the rise. The beach is nice, but horribly eroding. Therefore, it mainly goes uphill and there isn’t much beach left. Waves were great but the water was frigid in August because of an unlucky cold front (73 degree weather). I like the town, but I’m getting fed up paying the prices and NOTHING has been upgraded, enhanced, cleaned or well-maintained for years, so may start going elsewhere. Oval Beach needs more indoor changing rooms, toilets and showers, with regular maintenance and cleaning crews.

This is our favorite beach ever! The sand is white and clean and the water is always fantastic. Some days the waves are big enough you feel like you are at the ocean. And the water is so clear usually you can see your feet in the sandy bottom! There are no lifeguards at this beach and the riptide can be strong so be careful, especially with little ones. There are buoys to mark off a swimming area. The water doesn’t get very deep and there aren’t any drop offs—my husband and two older kids could walk to the furthest buoy and still touch. The water levels in Lake Michigan are really high right now so the beach area is narrower than in years past. This is fine but it does feel more crowded at times because there is less space to spread out.

There are restrooms and a concession stand. You can also bring a cooler with food and drinks. There are some charcoal grills and picnic tables. And tons of dunes to explore (just bring shoes—sand is hot and the sea grass can feel sharp). Beach closes at 10 pm. We love to go watch the sunset and make s’mores.

We love it here and it’s always a great day at the beach!

Oval Beach was so beautiful. We about 10 am and found that it was not crowded at all. There is a $10/day fee but well worth it as you can go in and out. We actually visited several days. They have clean restrooms and showers and there are also trails for hiking nearby. Due to COVID they restricted the amount of cars that could visit so there was plenty of room to spread out . And sunset was absolutely incredible. Don't miss it.

First... only mother nature can make any improvements to this "attraction". The level of Lake Michigan is very high, so much of the beach is covered by water. Add the fact that Douglas Beach (the other popular beach in this area) is closed for higher water it makes for a pretty crowded beach. If you are nervous about social distancing, I certainly wouldn't plan on visiting during a weekend. We found a quieter spot down at the end by the "private" beach frontage. You can walk all along the shore, but you can't set up camp. No alcohol or dogs on this beach.... just fair warning. The beach is very clean, nice sand, and lovely waves. The water was very, very cold! Still saw a lot of kids in the water, but I just couldn't do it!

My wife and I enjoyed Oval Beach and the walks along the beach. We went in mid September and so it was not very crowded. Lake Michigan's water level has been rising, I was told, and so the beach has been eroding. It was nice, but not as nice as expected. One promotion said it was one of the top 25 beaches in the world, which is not true in my opinion. Sad if it keeps eroding.

The ONLY reason I didn't rate this as terrible is because the parking is close. The beach itself is very very VERY small. The area we visited you have to climb down (and of course back up) a very steep dune to get down to the beach itself and the water. I understand it's a lake, but the water seemed (and smelled) very dirty. Nothing like the other Lake Michigan beaches we've visited. I brought my family here based off reviews and regretted it almost immediately. $10 entry fee is absurd for a beach like this. Will not return.

Its a state park, so there's not much other than beach, dunes and refreshing lake Michigan. After a week at a private lake, we moved to a motel in Saugatuck down the street from Oval Beach. Went there on a Sunday and it was crazy crowded. Beach is eroding away so there's less and less every year. $10 per vehicle without a state park pass makes this a "we'll go for an hour to cool off" place while we waited to check into the motel.
