Great Setting, Lost in Time

What better place to stop on a walk along the Ridgeway than this. It is delightfully set among trees, has good information and can provide some shelter in places from the wind.

A delightful long barrow situated within an atmospheric grove of trees. It is well worth taking the time to walk around this ancient place and absorb the tranquil atmosphere, and appreciate the silence.

Accessible via a well posted mile long picturesque walk from the Uffington White Horse National Trust Car Park.
Dog friendly, perfect picnic spots, unfortunately no toilets available.

Note that car parking is free for National Trust Members or two pound charge for non members via ticket machine.

A long walk to see this...

This is a duplicate post so check "Wayland's Smithy" too! It's the same place. Thirty minute walk from the car park roughly to get to the small copse of trees where the long barrow (ancient tomb) is.

Wrong title.

Picky, I know but it's called Wayland's Smithy not Wayland Smithy. Google will no doubt correct you but you never know.

impressive barrow
May 2016 • Solo
just of the ridgeway this was a pleasure to see an ancient low barrow, and a nice place to rest up and have little lunch.
