A collection of some of the more important examples of naive art (3 small galleries) plus visits to artists’ workshops on site producing new works for sale. Very good for what it is. Best part is speaking with the artists.

I wasn't really familiar with this type of painting until I visited this gallery. The artwork was wonderful and totally captured my imagination. I spent about an hour and just about had enough time to look at everything. The gallery is located in an artist's colony and is definitely worth seeing. Make the time to see it. I doubt that you'll see a collection like this anywhere else.

Even if unfamiliar with Naïve Art, you can learn so much by slowly wandering through the various galleries and collections. The artists and gallery attendants are eager to teach and explain. Not to be missed if you venture out from Belgrade.

Kovacica is a small town in Northeastern Serbia a few miles from Belgrade. It is a real artist colony, with dozens of painters, sculptors, woodworkers, musicians and musical instrument makers living and working in town. There is a central gallery, which functions as a communal exhibit space. It is a relatively small gallery, with perhaps four or five rooms showing the work of recently defunct and living artists. It is a happy place, with bright colors, charming rural scenes and depictions of everyday life in the Serbian countryside. This part of Serbia used to be part of Hungary until 1920, when the Trianon treaty reapportioned it to Yugoslavia. When Yugoslavia dissolved, it remained in Serbia. The population of the Vojvodina (as the region is called) is quite diverse, with Hungarians, Croats, Germans, Jews, Romanians and others sharing a small geographic area. The Gallery is well worth visiting. The exhibit is happy, the entrance fee is modest, and you can buy original art, as well as prints, limited editions, decorated furniture and other pieces of folk art.

Naive art I have encountered in children's books, but this here is quite soimething else. The paintings capture ordinary life, in particular country life, in Serbia that the passing visitor misses. The Museum has four rooms with paintings from about twenty different artists. At the reception you may buy a small souvenir. The receptionist gave us a brief but useful introduction to the exhibits. In the museum's vicinity are several private galleries which complement the museum's collection. The drive from Belgrade takes about an hour through Pannonia which is also quite interesting.

Since I come from Slovakia, I wanted to visit this village because there is a big Slovakian community. I am very glad that I did. This artsistic movement is really something unique, and I brought a very nice souvenir with me.

The native art in this town was extremely interesting. You can visit the museum Nd the nearby galleries to learn about the art and artists, then consider purchasing an original or a copy of some of the pieces. The staff was extremely helpful in every gallery we stopped in.
