My wife and I visited XC Ski Hq after deciding to learn to ski. Bob Frye was very helpful in working with us to get us outfitted for this adventure. He sold us great skis and boots (perfectly fitted) and connected us with an instructor to get us started. Our instructor Erin helped us to at first stand on skis and then to move in a straight line without falling. Over the last two years we have indeed learned to skate on snow. What a wonderful experience! It has transformed our view of Michigan winters. Prior to learning to ski we dreaded the arrival of winter, now we can’t wait until it snows.
In addition to fantastically well-groomed trails what makes this place special is the wonderful staff. They are always friendly and cheerful. They were extremely helpful with the selection of proper sets of layers for different conditions as well as answering questions about waxing.
The lodge makes an outing there something special. The ambiance of the Stone Turtle café fits so well with cross country skiing. Starting the day with a great cup of coffee before hitting the trails followed by a perfect panini for lunch and finally a beer or glass of wine in front of the large fireplace after skiing makes for a perfect winter day. I can’t recommend XC Ski Hq highly enough. It’s a real Michigan treasure.

We recently visited as part of the "Discover Michigan Skiing" program. We received perfect equipment as well as a group lesson. Our instructor gave us a great introductory lesson as well as tips and encouragement when we needed it! The trails were impeccable and offer varied terrain for skiers of various levels. We also enjoyed an amazing lunch of chili, panini sandwiches, and warm, freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies! We highly recommend Cross Country Ski Headquarters for beginner and novice skiers! We can't wait to go back!

We have been here many times and always enjoy ourselves! Rentals and trail fees are very reasonable. The trails are great and well maintained. There is a log cabin in the woods and on the weekends there is a bonfire going - great place to take a break, visit with other skiers and enjoy some hot chocolate! Classes are offered and the staff is very helpful about equipment and all aspects of the activities. There is a small food service area in the lodge with great soups, sandwiches, and drinks. There is also a nice outdoor deck with a fireplace. After our many years xc skiing there, this was our first time snowshoeing. The snowshoe trail was okay, a good way to give the activity a try!

This place is GREAT! A number of fantastically groomed trails, always something fun going on and a great ski shop to repair the basket on your pole cause you’re new to this whole thing and fall down a lot!

Take a free lesson in the AM and learn a couple tips.

All the staff were super friendly and helpful.
Can’t wait to go again!

PS: hit the Trappers Cabin often, there always seemed to be hot coco and snacks there!

Love the groomed trails! So peaceful. Stone Turtle lodge has a nice warm fire to relax and take a break while enjoying a beverage of your choice or some delicious hot chili.

Cross Country Ski Headquarters is always a fun place to visit and hang out. You can XCountry Ski, Snowshoe, and enjoy a great lunch next to the fire. The owners and their staff make even a novice feel like they can "do this!" My husband and I enjoy going in the winter for music and bbq on the grill outside. It is a blast. Try it .... you will love it there.

We have never skied in our lives, but we came for the free beginner ski class on Saturday at 10am and had a great coach. We learned a lot and had a blast! We can’t wait to do it again
