This lake is unique in that much of it is shallow and all of it crystal clear, so you can boat to your own spot and have your own personal swimming pool. There's so much to not do. And that's a good thing. Saw some great shooting stars.

One of the only deep launches on the lake. Weekends are busy between 11am-5pm. There are lots of parking places, too. When the lakeside lot fills, there is much more parking across the street. You need to keep your dog on a leash until you pull away. There are restrooms near the launch as well as a nice swimming beach,... More

We used to LOVE Higgins, but won't go back after two years of terrible swimmers itch. The itch and terrible red marks and uncomfortable skin lasts for weeks after you get home. What a shame, this lake is gorgeous.

We were here over twenty years ago when our kids were small. Returned this year with the kids and grandkids. We were on five sites which appeared to back up to each other. We had a canopy tent over the picnic table between sites. We were told by the ranger we had to move as we were on "common ground".... More

This place is beautiful, the lake is clean and with different colors, able to bring my puppy as long as they are on leash and clean after their mess. With the public access for boat launching we are able to bring our boat. Beautiful day! This lake has a beautiful clean beaches .

Across from the CCC Museum and picnic area, it has a great beach, wonderful camping and clean facilities! It is great for day use and there is ample pavilion space available for groups. There is a boat launch and play area for children. Close to US 127 it's easy to get to and only about 6 miles from Roscommon. There... More

Higgins used to be my favorite inland lake in Michigan. But while the state parks remain great, the lake itself now is afflicted with swimmer's itch. Locals are attempting to resolve this but for now, follow all preventives, and wash off after going in. Best thing to do is try not to hang around the beachfront or in the shallows,... More

The North State Park is a hidden gem. It is smaller and less crowded, than the South Higgins Lake State Park. It has beautiful views and nice walking paths. While swimmers itch can be a problem, you will be ok if you follow precautions and put on waterproof sun screen with SPF 15 or higher. I swam in the lake... More

Our family of four (two adults and two children, ages 2 and 4) had a lovely stay at North Higgins Lake State Park over the July 4th Holiday! We actually camped at the park from June 26th to July 6th, 2015. We stayed in our 22 foot travel trailer in close proximity to the restroom and bathroom facilities. A water... More
