We have a weekly group of players that travel around Metro Detroit each week to play. We pick a different course, so we see how many are run and how the courses are maintained. Yesterday we had the misfortune to play Pine Trace. At the first hole we were put behind a group of 6 golfers, all playing together. For experienced players I am sure you can imagine what this meant for the rest of our day. We asked the rangers why he was allowing 6, not very good players to back up the course, and he simply said it was a corporate outing. Six players do make a corporation. We waited on every shot. We waited at the tee, we waited in the fairway and we complained three times, but nothing was done. On a course that used to pride itself on having well-monitored playing, we were all disgusted. The management just didn't care! We will not be back! Whatever they made , I hope it was worth it to them. They didn't even offer us a deal for the future. This over-priced course is not worth the price nor the aggravation. There are far to many golf courses in S.E. Michigan to play Pine Trace. All in all , a very disgusting day!!!

Will not issue raincheck for leaving at turn when course is logjammed and on pace for 6-hour round??

First off - love Pine Trace, been playing here for several years and always my favorite play to get to when I can.
Today - first really "good weather" day so booked 18 holes and alotted 5 hours of on-course time. Apparent after about 4 holes that pace of play would not allow this. Had to wait on every tee/approach...front 9 took 3 hours and did not see a single ranger/person monitoring pace of play. No big deal, its like first good Michigan golf day and a Friday, so just happy to get what I can get and peel out after the front nine.
Issue: course would not issue a raincheck despite paying a $55 "Holiday Rate" in Michigan in April. Everyone who has played golf in Michigan in April knows that courses are not in the best of shape so $55 is already nuts. Was told that there is "no accommodation if you just decide to leave early." It would not have been "early" unless you consider 6 hours the expected duration for 18 holes.
It's not like I won't go back because its a great course but that's not a very good look for a business built on selling an experience.

Been awhile since I've played this course. Was surprised by poor condition of tees, greens, fairways. I play about once/ week in Troy/ Rochester/ Clarkston areas and this is in the worst condition of any course I've played recently. Layout is little strange/ poor signage which leaves you at times searching for the next hole. $38 for 9 holes teeing off after 6PM in not reasonable given the current condition.

Great course and layout and always well maintained. Little bit more expensive than other area courses, but worth it. Only knock is they don't have a beverage cart on the course (unless they have since changed). Well worth playing.

Hard to leave a star here but the site needs one. I haven’t played Pine Trace in a few years but a few friends asked me out. I mentioned recently I was told to stay away for numerous reasons but didn’t heed the warning. Please save your cash, time and frustration. First off it was $70.00 to play this past Saturday morning at 6:39 am. 2 players in our foursome were 1 minute late to the ranger shack and the starter made the other 2 to hit. No problem, I get it but one minute late? So we met them in the middle of the fairway where their drives were. It got worse every second after. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were absolutely In the worst shape I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately when the greens were playable the pin placements were In ridiculous locations. Further, no beverage cart was out and to add insult then the starter decided to send out 2 walkers in front of us at the turn. Our gift for making a 6:39 am tee time. It took everything to not have words with someone but the shame was obvious because only one girl was available in the clubhouse And she was serving drinks. Needless to say we will never be back. Again, heed this warning as it is a money grab at best and you will not be happy.

Seven of us at the club house after a round on their golf course and the food was outstanding. Sandwiches included a black angus burger, reuben, BLT, as well as huge taco salad. All were fantastic as was the wait staff.

We brought our wives (2 couples) on this weekend golf trip to Michigan and had a great time - we played all 3 golf courses, Shepherd's Hollow, Pine Trace and Cherry Creek.
All 3 coursed are very challenging with differences that make playing all 3 courses a must during your stay.
Highly recommended!!

I recently attended a wedding as an out of town guest at Pine Trace Golf Club and I cannot say enough great things about my experience here! The staff was super friendly and the wedding venue was phenomenal. Despite the negative reviews about the conditions of the greens, they must have completely transformed as my husband and I had a completely different perception of the course- it was in excellent condition! Understanding the harsh weather conditions, I am actually surprised the course was able to recover as well as it did. The setting and landscape was beautiful, and I really felt taken care of throughout my stay. I would definitely recommend looking into Pine Trace as an option for your events or weddings, and at the very least a round of golf! I know we're already looking into another weekend trip to stay and play.

It was a beautiful Sunday morning. The starter Richard was an amazing person, and everyone we all met at the course was friendly and gracious. I highly recommended for anybody and for any event.

the course was in terrible shape- dried out- poor grass in fairways and around the green. This used to be a premier course in the Metro Detroit area, I guess that has changed based on the course conditions and lack of concern from the management - who agreed how bad the course conditions were- even though the greens fees are still very high. I will not be playing Pine Trace or sister course Shepherds Hollow again
I would reconsider if you are thinking of playing this one time gem- it has changed
