This was an amazing place to visit! The springs are in the middle of a national forest on the banks of the Au Sable River, so the views are gorgeous. There are 300 stairs to go down, so be cautious…you have to climb back up them! But it is well worth the effort. It was not crowded when I went and the weather was perfect, so it was very peaceful and calming. There are a few small waterfalls as you go down, and boardwalks to walk along when you reach the bottom. You won’t be sorry you came!

This is a pull off on the River Road. The top is barrier free & there's a scenic lookout on top. There's also a pit toilet.
300 steps lead you down to the springs. The brochure says several hundred feet of boardwalk through the spring area. I looked at it all. This is a cool place & it's worth the 300 steps to get back up!

Iargo Springs is beautiful and a great destination for a day trip. We loved checking out the beautiful springs and ventured along to a hike to Canoers Memorial and back to Iargo. There are beautiful points that overlook Cooke Lake. The kids enjoyed and we did as well. It is a 3.5 mile hike there and back.

Beautiful!
It's a great place to see if you have some time to look around.
My family visited this site on vacation. We made the hike down, stairs are all wooden, but in good shape. There is plenty of resting spots along the way if you tire easily.
Once you get to the bottom, you get to take in the scenery. Not only do they have natural springs flowing, but there are several paths to take that will lead into woodsy areas or lake views. We got to see several different colorful birds, ducks, geese, swans, turtles, and a couple of larger birds in which I have no idea what they were.
Just look around, there is so much to see. The view is just a bonus!

If you thought the stairs at nearby Lumberman's Monument were bad, prepare yourself...there are even more at Iargo Springs: 294 to Lumberman's 272, to be exact. Easy enough on the way down, but quite the workout on the way up, especially that first long, unbroken flight (your heart will sink when you're staring up at it). But what you'll find at the bottom of the stairs more than makes up for the discomfort of the return trip.Standing upon the viewing platform perched high atop the banks of the Au Sable River, you would never guess there were beautiful little falls hidden beneath the canopy of trees. It's easily at least five degrees cooler at the bottom of the stairs than at the top, which makes for a nice respite on a hot day. And because of the dense shade, it also makes for a good rainy day activity, as it takes a long time for the rain to make its way through the trees. Just pace yourself on the way back up; it's not a race, but it can be a great bun and thigh workout!

This location is misspelled on tripadvisor, which is not unusual because upper case I looks like lower case L. Take the River Road tour and enjoy all the stops along the way. Iargo Springs is a developed site with much scenic beauty and attraction. Be advised that many steps up and down are required, and my be a challenge to folks with knee problems or other issues. When I was a kid we used to get water from these springs before the USFS developed the site. Pair this with Lumbermens Monument, the Canoe Memorial stop and you have a great day viewing Michigan's premier river from high banks with Pure Michigan beauty.

Beautiful area with running springs, small waterfalls, and wildlife. Although there are 300 steps to reach the water below, the AuSable River, there are rest areas about every 8-10 steps. Yes, now that I am in my 60s, I will admit to stopping at one of these "look-out" a couple of times to not only enjoy the view but also to catch my breath - especially when walking back up the stairs.

Iargo Springs is well maintained and rustic. If you are into nature, you will enjoy spending time here. Note that temperatures near the water can be 10-15 degrees cooler than at the parking lot level. Dress accordingly. Also, bring insect repellent in the summer months. Try to visit in autumn for fantastic fall colors.

We didn't know quite what to expect, but once we got down all those stairs to the spring it was magical. Lots of little streams and waterfalls wandering this way and that, and ducks out on the river. Much more impressive than Oqueoc Falls in our opinion.

The hike from the springs to the Lumberman's Monument is also a nice easy ramble along the top of the bluff, with some nice overlooks of the Au Sable.

We come here almost every Fall. It reminds me of when I grew up in the hills of KY. The beautiful springs, the woods and hills to climb. Great views once you get down the steps. There are 300 and climbing up can be daunting if you’re out of shape. They do have places to rest along the way. The views are absolutely worth it!

My boyfriend and I went for a ride and ended up at Iargo Sprigs. He has never seen the springs and it's has been a few years since I ventured the steps. The streams are so beautiful with it trickling clear water running down the waterfalls. Lots of beautiful spots for pictures. I especially took lots of pictures/videos to show my mother who can't make the trek but it brought back memories for when she could. Some of my pictures included kayakers crossing the back waters and just made my whole experience complete.
