Summit peak is a short drive from the porcupine park visitor Center. The place is easy to find using google maps. The hike to the view point is moderate. It took 15-20 min for us to walk to view point. One needs to climb stairs (~75-100) to enjoy the best view from the top. There is a decent view for... More

we reently visited porcupine mountain wilderness state park--we loved this area in spite of the mosquitos--but of all the hikes we did this was my least favorite--the overlook is pretty but the escarpment is much better with more variation in the hike and being able to see the lake and rivers and the trees as well--what a lovely place to... I think my expectations were too high. After being in so many beautiful spots in UP, Summit Peak was just okay. The view during fall season should be much much better. All you see if you go at this time of the year is trees. Zillion trees! It's beautiful, of course... But nothing outstanding Worth a visit, for sure. Don't... More

Comparing to Presque Isle and to Excarpment trail (from the Lake of the Clouds), it is quite boring. I do not recomment the summit peak round trip trail, it's pretty boring. It's still a nice walk in the forest, but nothing exciting.

While a short distance, the change in vertical left many seniors resting on the many benches along the way.

If you like to climb stairs and love great views--this is your spot. It is a long climb and a lot of stairs, but once you are at the top, your view of the Porkies and the Lake of the Cloud Valley is magnificent. Be in good shape before attempting this.

Be prepared, this hike is quite strenuous. There are lots of benches for anyone who needs them. Not for the faint of heart. Once I got to the top, I took the pictures, then got down right away. The wind was swaying the tower. Beautiful view of the vast wilderness.

You will find this drive along the road through the park. The parking lot is well shaded. The hike is uphill but not too long, maybe 1/2 mile. You will traverse many steps and a long boardwalk. then.....the tower. The tower itself is not that tall, though you are now at quite the elevation. Beware, if visiting in spring it... More

very nicely created and maintained, a little bit of effort to reach the top, but no rush , just stop, breath & enjoy the view.

It's worth the hike and short climb to Summit peak. You get a nice view of the park from the top. I always bring a park map and compass and make plans for my next adventure.
