Great views of the Apostle Islands

When at the top of Summit Peak be sure to check out the Apostle Islands off of the Wisconsin Coast about 30 miles away in Lake Superior.

This is a short hike with some steps to a small viewing platform. It is good for people that can't do long hikes (like us with small children) but want to take a hike in the Porkies. The view is a lot of trees, with Lake Superior in the distance. Nothing spectactular in the summer, but seems it would be... More

Great short hike to beautiful views - the first part is all uphill but very doable for most folks - we saw all age groups there.

This is a relatively short hike. The only problem I had was that once we got to the top there were so many people up there I couldn't get a photo. There had to be 15 people on a platform about 8 feet by 8 feet. I would rather hike the trails into the parks interior than climb that again.... More

Make the effort to climb the bazillion steps to the lookout. The view across the mountains and Lake Superior is stunning.

It seemed the escarpment was inpassible due to trees when I was there so this was our backup hike. It had overlooks and they were cool but just ok, the tower had a nice view. A couple stairs but nothing terrible. Basic wooded trail.

We visited the Porcupine Mountains in July, so when we went to the Summit Peak, we saw a sea of green all around us, stretching to Lake Superior. Beautiful view!

Summit peak is a short drive from the porcupine park visitor Center. The place is easy to find using google maps. The hike to the view point is moderate. It took 15-20 min for us to walk to view point. One needs to climb stairs (~75-100) to enjoy the best view from the top. There is a decent view for... More

we reently visited porcupine mountain wilderness state park--we loved this area in spite of the mosquitos--but of all the hikes we did this was my least favorite--the overlook is pretty but the escarpment is much better with more variation in the hike and being able to see the lake and rivers and the trees as well--what a lovely place to... I think my expectations were too high. After being in so many beautiful spots in UP, Summit Peak was just okay. The view during fall season should be much much better. All you see if you go at this time of the year is trees. Zillion trees! It's beautiful, of course... But nothing outstanding Worth a visit, for sure. Don't... More
