Was on way to UP for week golf and sightseeing vacation and anticipated playing Timberstone ( 5 star) and Greywalls. To cut drive time we stayed at the UAW lodge just up the street Monday night 8/9/21 and got summoned off course by siren due to imminent thunderstorms. Got a 9 hole rain check and played back nine Sunday 8/15/21 on way home and stayed there again.
I love this course but what stood out this time was the phenomenal service received. We had a 4:10 tee time and called on route and they moved us up to 2:20 tee and same twilight rate and the starter sent us off the 3rd hole to pass a couple foursomes. Wife thought that was super. Called off course on the 12th and that was it. Set a Sunday tee and emailed me saying playing off back ok with a 9:30 tee. They called Saturday and requested to start earlier so as not to hold up those making the turn. Great service!! Worked out great as we were first playing back nine with fresh dew and a spectacular cool summer morning of sunshine.(8/15/21)
I just want to thank all the employees at Black Lake for their great service and just love the conditions ( except for 15th) and we will see you again if in area. Exceptional value at $40 twilight compared to $109 Timberstone and $155 although all are unique in their own way. One of the best courses in the state. Arcadia and Greywalls are my number one and two but Black lake easily in top ten in my book.

The most peaceful course you will.ever play. The course winds through the woods, offering a peaceful picturesque experience. But don't let it fool you. A challenging course with tough greens that is in top shape. Cant wait to play it again

Great golf course but maintenance is lacking. The tee boxes were not mowed on Friday and the grass was very long that caused issues with grass getting between your club and the ball. The flags were not moved and in the same exact spot on Friday and Saturday. The fairways were long and like the first cut of rough on most courses. It is a very difficult and scenic course. Play is slow and rangers do not keep pace of play.

Had a great time here, I was in onaway at a family cottage and ended up playing two separate rounds through the week. Friendly atmosphere, good food and a very solid course especially at the price point during twilight hours. I even picked up a new shirt, 5/5 will be back.

Went there for a stay and play and to use group golfer vouchers. Have played there last 5 years in a row. This being the first time staying there. The course is always a treat. Was a little skeptical about the "rustic" lodging conditions.
When we arrived My vehicle was able to get in(check your vin) We were able to check in early.
Got to the "rustic " lodging and could not have been more pleasantly surprised. While somewhat dated the room was very large, clean. Beds were comfortable. (we were in the 500 area or upper lodging) Staff there is always as extremely friendly.
Looking to stay there next year for the 3play package and 2 nights. The whole complex is a very interesting place to explore.

All the ranking and reviews must have gone to there head! Upon arrival it was nothing but confrontation very disappointing experience, truly expected more after an hour drive from Gaylord area. Needless to say we found a very nice course in Gaylord that was able to accomdiate our group with out issues and the cost! Stay in Gaylord this course is not worth the trip!

This is one of the top courses I've played in terms of layout. Every hole is memorable. I only saw one green that was a bit beat up but otherwise an amazing course!

Actually my second review after playing with my wife here a few years back for first time and then this May 2019 with my brother in law and now again 8/29/19 with wife. Course was in better shape in wet spring with mostly cart path only compared to now with wide open cart riding.(with exception of roped areas) Some greens were dried out somewhat and didn't role as they could be probably because of lots of play of which they had a league out the front so we started on back at 2:45 with the twilight rate of $40 each which an excellent value.
The people behind us with the husband playing from almost the ladies tees kept pushing us on the back( front)nine and I played the blues( one tee up from the tips)and we finished in 3.5 hours but was not enjoyable. We had a couple in front of us so they weren't going anywhere.
Starters, pro shop personnel friendly and I love this Rees Jone course, just wish it wasn't so far away. Played the Rock at Drummond a couple days before which was nice and remote.
If you can't handle sand you're in trouble here and a 140 slope will eat you score up. Like the gps carts. See you again

Owned by the UAW. A Rees Jones design that wins awards. Perfect conditions always. Great staff and help a lot, most retired UAW folks. A must visit for northern golf.
