Don’t believe the hype
May 2019 • Friends
Came with a group of friends for burgers after an event at the fairgrounds. Waitress was snippy to start with. Ordered a round of drinks and they came to us on average time and ordered food. Usually a server acknowledges you when you put in your order. Nope. Several of us ordered and she walked away. Alrighty. Our fries
came and she plopped them on the table and walked away. Burgers came. Average at best. I would have preferred. Culver’s. Or even McDonalds. Never offered to refill our drink order. Never checked on us. Had to go to the bar to get a knife to cut the burgers. Bill came. Plopped it on the table. Was back in 40 seconds to ask ‘are
you going to pay yet?’. Yeah. I got the hint. We’re leaving. Didn’t bring my change.
Would have loved to stay and visit with friends but no, not here.

Can't Go Wrong - A Must
Jul 2018 • Friends
I look forward to frequenting this restaurant/bar during my yearly visits to the UP and visited it four times during this trip. Bartenders are great and food is consistently excellent. Many "locals" hang out there and the atmosphere is typical friendly, small town. Very relaxing. Very casual dress - bluejeans the dress code. Reasonable prices - a lot for your buck.

Good burger. Good beer.
Jul 2017 • Family
We all tried the burgers. Not a bad one in the bunch. This was recommended by the rafting guide. It's a very very small place. We stopped in at about 2:00 on a Monday and the place was not busy at all. I really liked my olive burger.

Great Bartender Service
Jul 2017
Chris, our bartender at Thirsty Whale bar and grill, gave fast and phenomenal service and was very personable. We heard that they served the best burgers in the state and eating is believing. "Award winning" and delicious is all I have to say. After 10 hours of driving, this was the perfect spot that made our day :) Great place to enjoy a cold and refreshing craft beer from the local breweries. All in all, the cute nautical theme and the tasty food made it the perfect destination after a long day.

Thirsty Whale GREAT BURGERS and FUN
Jul 2016
The thirsty whale has the best burgers in Dickinson County. rated # 1.
Good company and nice people. In the back of the bar they have volley ball courts, and have leagues playing in the summer every Tuesday and Wednesday. also an out door bar during that time.

Friendly bar & grill
Jan 2016 • Friends
Small-town bar & grill. Food has always been wonderful and very large portions. Very good bar selections. Very friendly staff; you're never a stranger. ... None of the other reviewers have mentioned the "beach" volleyball games during summer weather. A young singles crowd hangs out there; very popular & the parking lot fills up, while inside, the bar has only a few patrons! ... TA needs to merge this listing with "Thirsty Whale" ... same place, but this listing has many reviews.

Seating is a tad cramped, but the place is generally quite acceptable
Jun 2015 • Couples
The Thirsty Whale has been "anointed" and I understand "voted" as having the best burger in Michigan. Well, for myself (a Wisconsinite with family in Norway), it's quite "good," but for me not the best I have ever had in Michigan. Place is a tad cramped as far as seating is concerned, and the service can be harried when the place is busy. The food is quite good - -I had the big half pound burger, with fried onions, and a side of cole slaw (on a Saturday, after I was told no cole slaw except for the Friday fish fry -- go figure). Anyway, it was also quite good, but for me the best part of the meal was the house chili. Very well done, with plenty of meat, more "soup" than "chili" in style, not too spicy, and that's fine for me. I don't drink - -but it looked like the place has a wide, wide variety of beers. Prices are OK - -not high, not low- - sort of "in the middle." I will go back for sure- - but not as a "designated" absolute.
