If you are traveling to the UP in the Newberry area & you're looking for something to do this tour it is not too bad. However, to take the train and boat cruise together (which is the only way they take you to see the falls) it will take up about seven hours of your day. If they could figure... More

Dear AS, We would like nothing more that to shorten the tour however that just isn't possible. The train and boat tour is done the same way it was done since 1927 and back then it was a 9 hour tour. So I guess compared to then it's much faster today. How special that you got to see the bears.... More

We just took the train tour. We saw two bears and some sandhill cranes. And the picnic area they had a concession stand open, and some toys for the kids to play with while the engineer turned the locomotive around a small wye. We weren't able to take photos of the bears since the train doesn't slow down for photos.... More

Thanks for your review. Our family is so happy you enjoyed the train ride. Sorry the driver wasn't able to slow down much for the bears for better photos. Sometimes the driver isn't able to see that the bears are out and behind the train. They do slow down as much as they dare when they do see them. The... More

We took Tour #2 (just the train). On the first half of the tour we saw some sandhill cranes and two bears. The train stops at a little picnic area so the engine can turn around. That was about a 15-minute layover. There are some nice views of the river, a concession stand, picnic tables, and an outhouse. They have... More

We are so happy that you enjoyed the train ride. It's always a bonus when the bears come out for the train. I'm sorry that the train isn't able to slow down for the bears but they might try and hitch a ride if we did. Thanks for taking the time to review us. More

Nice tour. Seats are not too comfortable though (wooden) which is the biggest downside of the almost 2 hour trip. But you can stand up. The tour people feed the bears on the way, so you will definitely see those. We also saw at least 6 Sandhill Cranes. The bummer was that we were moving too quickly to take good... More

We sorry that we are not able to go slowly enough for better photos off the train. The bears would likely try and board if we did. We are so glad you enjoyed the ride. Thank you. More

First let me thank Dixie Stewart and the staff of the trolley and boat tour to Tahquamenon Falls. They all work to make this a great tour and great experience. The Capt.of the boat has a literally encyclopedic knowledge os the river, the birds, the trees and a whole lot more. They have food service for a fair price, hamburgers,... More

Yesterday my parents and I traveled to the upper peninsula of michigan to go to the toonerville train and boat ride that stops at the falls. The employees were really nice as we arrived and got tickets which we reserved the week prior. The port o lets were the cleanest I have ever seen or used. The first part of... More

Great way to spend the day. We saw 3 bears on the train ride and a number of Sandhill Cranes. On the boat trip we saw 2 does, 3 fawns, a bald eagle a number of Belted Kingfishers, Merlin, Gulls, Black-throated Green warblers and others. The falls were nice I enjoyed the hike getting to and from the falls.

This trip was a great experience for my children, ages 4 and 7. "We were hoping to see any wild animals" says my 4 year old and toonerville trolly did not disappoint. We saw 3 black bears, a doe with her fawn, and some cranes. It was a great way to end our UP Vacation before heading home. Even the... More

This train & boat ride are worth doing! Our family of 5 enjoyed every piece of this adventure. We loved seeing the bears, Eagles & cranes! We loved the view of the falls and the facts shared on the boat cruise. The food on board the boat was tasty & reasonably priced. Highly recommended!

What a great way to spend a day. The thrill of the day was seeing a bear and cub close enough to touch. Friendly and helpful staff, and great service. Fun little train ride back to a waiting river boat. Relaxing two hour ride to the falls. The Captain and staff gave lots of facts about the river and area... More
