One of my husband's coworkers recommended the trolley to us for our upper Peninsula trip. We chose to do just the trolley, not the trolley and boat combo. The total trip takes about an hour and 45 minutes. It is 35 minutes each way, along with about a 15 to 20 minute wait at the halfway point while they switch... More

Dear Vrp66, How lucky you were to see several bears on your ride. We do what we can to get them out for passengers to enjoy. The Sandhill cranes are always fun to see too. Yes the train will have some smell of diesel as with any motor, however it's not excessive. I am sorry it bothered you. We do... More

The people that run the facility are very friendly and helpful. We only took the trolley ride because we had already seen the falls from the state park. The trolley ride is long and boring. After seeing a 100 trees, seeing 10,000 more doesn't impress me. The kids on the train were bored after 5 minutes.

Be prepared for about a 7 hour day. To us, it was worth it. To access the River, we rode 5.5 miles on the longest and oldest 24 narrow gauge railroad through dense forest and woodlands, arriving at the Tahquamenon River where we boarded the riverboat Hiawatha for a 2 hour, 21 mile trip to the Upper Falls, We had... Dear Shannon, We are pleased that you enjoyed your tour with us. You have given others some good advice. Each child is different, some are just fine and others are a bit as you put it restless. This sounded like an amazing day trip and I was really excited. So much so that I drive 5 hours one way to do this adventure. Boy was I wrong :/ the trolley ride was 35 min in the woods, not much to see other than trees. Then the boat was nothing special, going a whopping 10 miles an hour... More

First off I want to compliment the staff at the Toonerville Trolley Riverboat Tour Co. They are all very nice and work hard at making their passengers happy and comfortable. My husband and I both thought that the trip was just very long. The river was beautiful but just more of the same around each turn. When we finally reached... More

Dear LovesNYC1951, We are happy that our staff took good care of you. Our family works very hard to provide the best customer service possible. I am surprised you thought the park side of the falls had a better view. Most of the people we talk to say our view is best. Yes the trip is long but there is... More

I was excited about this tour, thought we'd see some interesting things. We didn't. First let me take the falls out of the equation because they were awesome but I would highly recommend seeing them a different way. We got on the trolley which is a half hour ride of trees. Literally nothing else. Now I like trees as much... More

This turned out to be a wonderful easy low-key excursion fun for the whole family. $15 a person, kids are free. All aboard a covered train. Takes you through the woods at a nice speed. My 3 year old loved the ride. The guide was great, I didn't catch her name, super friendly. We saw 3 bears in the first... More

If you are traveling to the UP in the Newberry area & you're looking for something to do this tour it is not too bad. However, to take the train and boat cruise together (which is the only way they take you to see the falls) it will take up about seven hours of your day. If they could figure... More

Dear AS, We would like nothing more that to shorten the tour however that just isn't possible. The train and boat tour is done the same way it was done since 1927 and back then it was a 9 hour tour. So I guess compared to then it's much faster today. How special that you got to see the bears.... More

We just took the train tour. We saw two bears and some sandhill cranes. And the picnic area they had a concession stand open, and some toys for the kids to play with while the engineer turned the locomotive around a small wye. We weren't able to take photos of the bears since the train doesn't slow down for photos.... More

Thanks for your review. Our family is so happy you enjoyed the train ride. Sorry the driver wasn't able to slow down much for the bears for better photos. Sometimes the driver isn't able to see that the bears are out and behind the train. They do slow down as much as they dare when they do see them. The... More
