Amazing family experience with first time riders
This was by far a highlight of our family vacation! The trails were unbelievably serene and included multiple deer sightings. The staff was so wonderful with our boys on their first experience horseback riding. And our guide was kind and sweetly endured a conversation with our six year old for the whole hour ride. 🤣 And the icing on the cake was being able to reward our horses with a snack at the end of our ride. We will definitely be back next year and do the longer ride!

    Stony Lake Stables ROCK!!
There are multiple stables nearby and we had visited another one last year. Wasn't impressed. Stony Lake Stables was hands down a winner! The family atmosphere was wonderful. The horses were well taken care of and beautiful. The trail ride was through the gorgeous forest. Our wrangler Hillary was an intelligent, kind and very capable young lady. We had a fantastic family outing. Thank you Stony Lake Stables ❤️

    Fun family trail experience
The horses were gentle and seemed well cared for. Our family enjoyed the one hour ride, which was plenty of time. We’ve done other trail rides before in places all over the world. This is the first stable we have visited that allows three year old children to ride on their own horse (with a guide alongside). It seemed risky to us, but it worked out fine for that family and I guess speaks to how docile the horses are and the nature of the trail. Our kids liked seeing the cat with kittens, the rabbits, and the miniature horses. Make sure to apply plenty of insect repellent. One suggestion for the owners would be to take a photo of each family and email it at the end, or else provide a photo opportunity at some point since your signs say not to use phones or anything while riding.

    Beautiful Morning Ride
This stable has a very organized and compassionate staff. They are able to accommodate all levels of riders and the price per ride is very reasonable. They have an elevated platform if you’re worried about getting on and off the horse. Their wooded area has lots of deer that just watch you ride by.

    Friendly and Easy
Kids had a great first experience riding horses. Instructors paired horses according to experience level and rider size. Very friendly staff, which instructed clearly on what to do during our ride. Had raised platforms available to mount/dismount easily. Most of the trail was located in a wooded area for shade and experiencing nature, including multiple close deer sightings. Overall, fantastic experience for us all.

Do not skip this! It's amazing'
This was absolutely an amazing experience! We surprised our daughter by going and all rode and just loved it. If you are in this area do not skip it! The horses are so gentle and the guides are so wonderful. My husband has never ridden a horse, was so nervous and was very much at ease here. He said it was one of the best things he's ever done!

    Great experience
We took our daughter on her 9th birthday. She has never been on a horse and was a little scared at first. One of the wranglers helped her overcome her fears pretty quickly and my daughter had a great time! We did the hour long ride. The horses are very gentle and well-trained to follow one another along the path. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We saw so many deer along the trail. It was peaceful. Worth the money!

    Fantastic Family Fun
This place is amazing and a family favorite any time of year! This is our second visit to Stony Lake and we enjoyed a beautiful day with the horses. The staff are incredible and very helpful for anyone who isn't familiar with horses. The trail is gorgeous and we enjoyed the beautiful fall colors. Another bonus, the adorable and cuddly barn cats. Thank you!

We had a great time with our group of 5 riders: 2 grandparents and 3 grandkids:3, 5 and 8. The staff were friendly and kind and the horses well trained and cared for. They have 76 horses and take groups of 7 - 13 out 5 times/day in the summer. The hour long route goes thru a wooded deer preserve and we saw about 20 deer in several groups including 4 buck with big racks. The 3 year old boy rode with me (66 yo grandpa) and the 5 yo girl rode alone with a wrangler holding her reins. Our 8 yo got to led the pack and they all loved it!

FYI there’s a nice country store just up the road with a huge amusement park. We stopped there afterwards for lunch and treats. (Lewis adventure Farm). The admission to the park is kind of pricey but the store is free.

My husband and I were visiting Silver Lake, MI for a getaway and a friend of our who had just been up there for a visit suggested this place. She said her family of four had a great time. So, I got online and I booked us a one hour trail ride. We got there early, like suggested. They have a nice ranch going. You could purchase cups of horse treats to feed the horses for 50 cents a cup. They had bathrooms and were very friendly. They picked out Bess for me and Bullet for my husband. Our tour guide was Ella and I can't remember her horses name! She was so very friendly and informative. She knew every answer the questions we asked her and was very attentive. We will for sure be back and will be bringing our kids along too!

We were a group of 9 people with two small children and a few other first time riders. The horses were paired with each rider according to experience and we had an awesome guide. My 4 year old grandson rode his own horse! The trails were beautiful and everyone enjoyed the scenery. I highly recommend this experience if you are looking for a great way to spend part of a day.

Our whole family signed up for an hour long trail ride on Stony Lake Stable's website and our experience was AMAZING!!!
The staff was obviously very busy on our arrival, but they were attentive, extremely nice and very hard working.
Our ride was led by Brandy and we also had another employee with two of the smaller children. Brandy was very personable and memorized all of the names of the kids on our ride and engaged in conversations with them during our entire ride between teaching us what to do on the trail. She made the experience so much fun for the kids who started off a little nervous.
The horses are all very well cared for and so kind and a huge perk was seeing all of the deer in the fields/forests along the trails - we had no idea that Stony Lake Stables also has deer on their farm!
I would highly recommend going to Stony Lake Stables if you are in the area....I didn't want to leave and could have gone on the trails over and over!
Also, be sure to wear close-toed shoes, pay the $1.00 to feed your horse after the ride and tip the hard-working staff after your ride is over. They absolutely deserve it.

Our family had a wonderful time. Everything was great about the experience. The horses were well-cared for; the staff was friendly and helpful; the one-hour ride was just right. The owner matched each of us to a horse and we enjoyed experiencing their different personalities. The ranch was clean and well-maintained. We highly recommend this business for any family looking to spend a hour exploring the area on horseback.

We went for a ride on July 14. We do this every summer while up here on vacation. We booked our ride just a couple hours before the time. There were many young kids in our group as well as a mischievous last horse - a horse that kept bumping his poor rider into trees and thorny things to scratch itself (the staff knew this horse did this, hard to know why they use him on the trail) so we did a lot of stopping and starting And the poor guy left with gashes on his leg (which he was not upset about, so it’s no worry- and they suggest you wear long pants and he did not). There was a sweet guide Lauren who has to buddy up with one of the young riders and the two of them had the most awesome conversations the whole hour ride. She was incredible with him.
The staff is always wonderful, the horses are well cared for, they focus on safety, the trail is gorgeous, we saw lots of sweet deer in the fields and it was overall a great day spent with my girl. Be sure to bring cash for tips. They are all HS and college girls and do an excellent job.

Stony Lake Stables was amazing! I thought they were extremely organized and accommodating and had a system down that made me feel at ease. I appreciated they gave me time to take pictures of my daughter on her horse. I also was extremely impressed with a girl Harriet an experienced rider who led our group and took my 6 year old under her wing to tell her jokes and make her comfortable when she was nervous. She really made our day and no matter what she does in life whether it’s with horses or something else she will go on to do amazing things! As we left the first thing my daughter said was, “when can we go again?”, which is great because she didn’t say much the whole time so I wasn’t sure if she liked it at first. :)

My daughters (both teens) and I visited for a 1.5 hr ride on a Monday afternoon. Do arrive early as the staff is very efficient in getting everyone in the group assigned to and up on a horse and then on the trails. The horses are all well trained and it was a very enjoyable ride in the woods. Do bring a jacket! The staff was very friendly.

We had the absolute best experience at Stony Lake Stables. We were able to get in pretty last minute and the staff was incredibly accommodating. The trail was beautiful, guides were friendly and knowledgeable. Our 8-year old son and 6-year old daughter loved every minute and it was worth every penny.

Stables are now called Stony Lake Stables. Well-run establishment. Easy online reservations. My group went on a 1-hour trail ride that stayed on wide, easy trails, mostly in shady forests. We saw a fawn and mother, part of the farm's deer herd. Guide Kailey is a member of the owner's family, and she was a delight! She shared much about the stables, the horses, the new foals born, barrel racing, and the therapeutic riding offered to local children and adults.

I was pleased for 2 children on our ride who were given ponies led by another stable guide. So much more enjoyable that riding in a circle as many stables relegate children of a certain age!

Helmets were optional, but they should be a must.
