We went out of our way to go to this welcome center with plans to get lots brochures and helpful hints for our weeks vacation in MI
Website said open
But when we got there restrooms open thank goodness
But big building with all the visitor information locked with closed signs
We felt so defeated. Did not even know which way to start out our trip now.
Lots people in parking lot like us.
Suggestion it would be nice if visitor center staff set up tables out side safely spaced with the tourist information

This is one of the best welcome centers I've seen, filled with lots of information and a bit of Michigan highway history.
Travelers would really appreciate these elsewhere.

JMJ Hard to believe the size and scope of this rest stop! Huge welcome center with racks and racks of brochures to help you find some fun in Michigan. Large play area for children including a swing and jungle gym area. Model lighthouse for a great picture opportunity. So many people there I felt like it was a popular gathering place, but ample space to handle the crowd.

First this is located off the eastbound route of I-94 but you can also access off wilson road. If you head west from us12 on wilson just before you get to the I-94 bridge there is a road on left. That takes you into the welcome plaza. This is how the employees and service workers get in. No gate and no hassles. They have an abundant amount of free goodies to help you plan a trip or find something new to do. Employees generally very helpful.

We stopped here to get a picture of us by the state sign. We have taken 41 similar pictures as we have entered states over the last two years while RVing America. Many states made those photo shots dangerously difficult to take. But we took them anyway. This Welcome Center is one of the best we have ever seen. Thanks to the Michigan planners, our picture taking was effortless for this state.

This rest stop/ welcome center is a great place to stop upon entering Michigan. It is quite the respite after the hectic I- 80/ 94 traffic around Chicago and Gary. The restrooms are nice, plenty of brochures to pick up about Michigan sites an events. There is a nice outdoor playground and there are indoor vending machines.

The bathrooms were so-so. But, there was a lot of travel literature for visiting all over Michigan. If you are a 'paper' flier type of a person, be sure to stop to look at the brochures/maps, etc.

Our newly purchased summer house had a broken pipe last winter and we are currently without water or plumbing. My wife depends on the cleanliness of this rest stop before we get to the house. A Port-o-potty is finally being delivered this coming week, so we have had few options for last last 6 months.
There are 3 different restrooms. Avoid the first one closest to the entrance. Most people go to the one that is in the middle of the welcome center (which is very nice inside and out), unless you do what my wife just discovered. If you drive to the back of the building with the semi trucks, there are bathrooms at the very far end where the woman's bathroom is seldom used!

We would like to visit New Buffalo for a few days, then take Amtrak to Chicago for a few days. Is there secure parking at Amtrak station. Are there package deals for something like this? Thank you.
