This 12th century medieval castle, one of the best-preserved in Vendée, has well weathered along the centuries well and managed to retain all its charm. Today, the castle contains a museum inside the keep.

The day we visited was open free to the public with late closing. How lucky we were. Built at the end of the 12th century it is well preserved and a fine example of medieval architecture. It was used as a residence and in time...More

This is quite a sight. There are not many castles from that far back that are in such good shape. The small collection of objects on display is interesting, and Norimoutier itself is a lovely island with salt marches and a bird sanctuary. Avoid July...More

Visited Noirmoutier on market day and went to Château while there. Worth going just for the view from the top, but the kids loved walking around and we all found interesting especially the battle scenes in paintings on display. Not expensive

A nice castle to visit, with great views and a lot more information on local history than one would expect from a local castle. Important moments in history during Dutch invasions and after the French revolution were very well explained and visualised. Well worth a...More

This is a nice way to spend an hour if you’re visiting the area. You will need to understand a little French to appreciate the exhibits, but if not you can just enjoy the view from the roof!

It's only a small attraction, and took less than 2 hours to visit the castle grounds in their entirety, but there were some very interesting historical items and stories in the castle which I don't think I'd have ever heard of without visiting. This was...More
