Visiting Garlyn Zoo has been on our list for awhile and we finally went. We spent two hours enjoying all of the animals. Most people might take less time, but we like to take our time. The animals were well-taken care of, the zoo is in a beautiful wooded setting with wood mulch trails, the staff was working hard and the variety of animals was amazing. We had a great time! The $15 entry seems a little high but we feel it was money well-spent.

My son and I had been to this zoo once, many years ago. Yesterday, while traveling from Marquette to spend a night in St. Ignace, my son (who is 23 now) saw the sign and like his past self said let's sto, let's stop!

So we did. $15 a piece got us into the zoo, a good price for what you see. The animals all seem well taken care of. It's small enough to get around very easily (and quite shaded, which helps in the summer) and yet has enough of a mix of animals to make it interesting the entire time. Perfect for families with young kids, but even fun enough for my son and me. Recommended while traveling along U.S. 2.

I loved this zoo! I spent 3 hours there and could have stayed longer but for the rest of my crew. Such an odd mix of creatures, all well housed and in good health. At one point I was at a trail intersection and the singing dogs began singing. There was a response from all 4 corners around me; the lions and tigers roared, and the wolves and coyotes howled. It was a real highlight of the day, and I enjoyed the zoo more than any other outing of our 5 day trip.

I can confirm this is a terrible place to visit, as others have stated here. The owner is greedy, rude and discriminatory. I'm honestly surprised the place hasn't been shut down. We drove over 30 miles to visit, only to be told "No outside food or drink is allowed. You have to return your water bottles to the vehicle." It was a hot day, so I asked if there were drinking fountains inside. I was told, "Nope, but you can buy water at the gift shop." When I looked around, I saw two families heading inside, one drinking from a bottle of Coke and another with a beverage container / water bottle sticking out of her backpack. When I asked why they were allowed to bring in drinks and not me, I was told, "I guess they just snuck past me." Interesting. Then I was told to leave the property immediately. I asked if they wanted a bad review and was told, "I encourage you to leave a bad review so I can respond." I personally do not think rude behavior and money gouging should be rewarded, so I left. We then went on to the Mystery Spot attraction, where water bottles are welcomed and staff are friendly.

A lot of zoos no longer allow outside food or drink as a safety factor for their animals. You cannot go through security at any airport with certain amounts of liquid or food. Museums also restrict certain items. This is 2022 and the world is a different place. We do not like adding restrictions, but we must. When a person starts with a hostile attitude, they are met with a hostile attitude. You may purchase drinks in the gift shop but it is not a requirement, and you are welcome to go back and forth to your vehicle if you need to. We do have a pavilion by the parking lot before you enter the zoo and you are welcome to enjoy a lunch or snack before, after or during your visit.

What an awesome zoo! My sister and I took our 3 daughters there. The zoo is clean and in a lovely setting and the animals were obviously well cared for and had pleasant and roomy habitats. You walk in and are surrounded by peacocks, turkeys, chickens, ducks and other birds that walk around freely. There is a large variety of animals, surprising for such a small zoo. The story of King the dog and his “bears” is a heartwarming one. You can feed the parakeets, deer, and bears. We spent an hour and a half there and met the owner who was so friendly and welcoming. If it hadn’t been closing we would have done another loop. Would highly recommend

Took a little side trip for a day from the family cabin in Cheboygan to stop here and the Kitch-iti-kipi. Great little low-key zoo. Older kids might not find it very impressive but it checked off our summer zoo experience for our kids age 7, 5, and 3 and was a managable size for myself being 7.5 months pregnant. Not a ton of amenities, but we were prepared and knew to plan bathrooms breaks other places (there's a nice roadside rest stop a few miles West). Kids loved the lions and dropping the apple down the chute to the bears. A little disappointing that some of the animals were not out to see because it is a smaller zoo (deer, camel, hyena, and river otters) but still plenty to see.

We absolutely loved the quaint Zoo!
This was both our first time visiting a smaller zoo & was grateful that we made a U-turn to stop in.
The staff was very friendly!
Definitely surpassed our expectations.
From free roaming fancy chickens & peacocks to 2 bears and their dog💗.
We were able to feed the alpacas and the forays.
Such a neat experience.
I took so many pictures & videos to share with our Grandtreasures & family back home.
Learning it is a family owned business, we were grateful to pay the admission fee.

We recommend this place!!!!

We are vacationing near Cheboygan and this zoo was just an hour away - perfect for a short family trip. Our little one, just under two, was fascinated by the free-range chickens and other birds before we even entered the zoo! He loved feeding the animals and hearing the lion roar. Lots of families there and they had a great group rate. Fun visit!

We stopped here last weekend, it was such a good time. The zoo itself isn’t very big but it’s well Maintained and has many animals, some of which you can feed. They even have a reptile house type set up. Super fun stop while you’re in the U.P.

Garlyn Zoo is a small friendly well run zoo. We have been going here for years as we have a summer home 15 miles away. Each May when we go for the first time of the season I am impressed at the improvements made and new additions added. The owner truly puts money back into his zoo. I buy a family pass as some weekends when our grandkids come visit they go every day. The staff are very visible and friendly. Always available to answer questions. I highly recommend a visit. You will not be disappointed.
