The Cirque de Gavernie is a very easy walk, with easy slopes and breathtaking views during the hike. It took me 45 minutes to get up to the hotel before passing to the mountainous area. At the beginning of the walk, it mentions 1 hour...More

It is easy to understand why English Romantic novelist loved visiting Cirque de Gavarnie. It is nature at its most beautiful. It is huge, awesome, exciting, even in the summer. As much a must see in your lifetime as the Grand Canyon.

Equipped with our hiking boots, plenty of water and a packed lunch, we set of late morning. There were other walkers but not too many. Going up the main track, the breathtaking destination is in sight most of the time. The day before we walked...More

A magical place, strolling along the river you leave civilisation behind and climb into a wild river valley surrounded by mountains. Whilst it was quite busy it's still a majestic sight to behold, and the first part of the walk wasn't too strenuous even for...More

Visited with family in August 2016. Absolutely stunning and a lovely walk up and back. Not too hard going as long as you wear the right shoes. Walking poles recommended for the last part of the walk up to the waterfall which was amazing. This...More

Not knowing exactly what we were getting ourselves into my wife and I ventured up the valley from Luz-Saint Saveur with a pack of picnic provisions and a day to just hike wherever we were led. We were led by others, over breakfast, to Gavarnie...More

Possibly because of all the religious groups sharing the path, but mainly because of the wondrous nature of this place, this whole experience had the feel of a sacred pilgrimage. And the Cirque de Gavarnie is indeed worthy of such devotion and reverence. It was...More

My husband and I hiked to the base of the falls. It is not a difficult hike, but wear appropriate footwear and take along water. There are a few rather areas to cross over, but the trails are well maintained. As you near the falls,...More

Having arthritic knees was a little unsure of this walk! However, taken gently it is quite possible and well worth the effort. As you progress into the cirque it is obvious why it was such a Mecca for early tourists and still remains so. The...More

It was an absolutely beautiful view. We did a horse ride, we only had time for the shortest ride (30mins €12 each) It was well worth it, we loved it and would have happily paid double for the experience.

We want to spend 8-9 nights walking in the Pyrenees including Gavarnie. Any suggestions for a starting and finishing point. We are experienced hikers and like a challenge!

I am planning a visit for January and would like to do winter activities like sledging and dog sleding. Do I have to book prior? Are there any other tourist attractions to visit while spending the day there?

I was staying in Lourdes doing a pilgrimage with Pilgrimages abroad. So I wouldn't be too sure. However, there seemed to be plenty of hostels and camping in the area. You may have to do some online research or perhaps... More
