Whilst renting the little chateau just below the fortress, we were fortunate enough to take a tour of this beautiful, slightly wild fortress. This was a private tour for my family (5 of us, youngest 8), given in excellent English by a thoroughly charming and well-informed guide.
The castle is a ruin, slowly being restored by volunteers, but there is plenty to see. As well as the castle itself, the views from the site are fabulous. If you are anywhere near Miremont, this is a really great, out of the way, place to visit.

We take the time to visit this castle and explain the evolution of the site for 9 centuries.
There are many things to discover, with imagination of course, because it is a ruin of the 12th century. Everyone is involved in the restoration: volunteer, when comme for restore, to visitors for a day ...
Thank you for your contribution!

Very good guided tour. With a great archeological viewpoint. You can see the development in the dig sites. The whole thing has an "unfinished" feeling, which contributes, for me, to make it more interesting.

With the help of a well informed guide who spoke excellent English, this ruin from the eleventh century is beginning to offer up its secrets. Well worth a visit, and a worthy cause to support the volunteers who work hard on its archaeology. Beware the steps up the tower though. Manageable for our eighty year olds but not ideal for small children.

We had decided to pop out to see the Fortress Miremont which was at the top of the hill behind our holiday rental property - expecting to stay about 15 minutes or so. We were not expecting a guided tour and by the end of our visit, were totally enthralled by the unfolding story of this site. The owners are in a long process of restoration, and have only volunteers to help because of funding issues. The site has a long history dating back to the 100 years war, and Christine lovingly explained all the aspects to their work, trials and delights along the way. Our small group all bought calendars to help their funds, and the entry fee was well worth it. A unique experience which we all enjoyed very much - a fitting end to a wonderful week castle hunting in the Dordogne!

A military castle forgotten in time but in the proces of being rediscovered. Very authentic restauration still being caried out by volunteers. You can see up close the different architectures of 12th, 14th and 16th castle building. Nice view of the valley and great guide and tour of the fortress. Follow the arrows along a small forest road and park at what will be the future visitor centre. Must see for a more real view of a medieval castle.

Good afternoon
Would you say your castle is easy to get around for a pretty fit person on crutches?
Bonjour,
Il y a 200m à faire sur un terrain qui descend un peu. Ensuite nous pouvons adapter la visite pour quelle soit plus facile. Il y a néanmoins des escaliers durant la visite.
Peut-être à bientôt
