My husband and I chartered this guide out of Muskegon to fish for salmon. We've been on many Charters and have never been skunked before. The husband got one bite and I didn't even get one. I realize this can happen and realize that part of a charter is just the experience of getting out on the water. I'm not angry about not catching any fish. I am however irritated by the captain's lack of punctuality and showing up late. The boat seemed to be in somewhat of bad repair. The water pump wasn't working and it was raining quite a bit which was scary and not safe. He did a lot of bragging about how he could be an ocean captain but I didn't feel safe with him on a river. I also thought he was kind of snarky with his answers. He may have been irritated that he couldn't put us on the fish but that really wasn't our fault. he also talked a lot about he didn't talk on the phone while he was doing a charter however he was on the phone constantly talking to other people about political things that we're going on in Muskegon. I answered him a couple of times thinking he was talking to me but no he was talking on the phone again. Needless to say... I wouldn't recommend him as a fishing guide.

Don't know where to start. Was told Cpt Art would meet us at 7 am, then the night before said 7:15, shows up 7:30, boat not ready, got on water close to 8. It was a rain forcasted day, 1 to 3 inches, and Cpt Art stressed safety first, but after a inch of rain discovered the beilge pumps wasn't working. Kinda think you would check that!! Lucky we did not get the 3 inchs. The river boat was old and not a class act, alot of exposed wires, old wood for seats, only 2 fishing seats in rear, which does nothing for person in front. Boat didn't even have fish finder. I know you think you know all the holes, but it did not work. We have charter Lake Michigan in Manistee, Lake Erie, Lake Cumberland Ky, Kentucky Lake/ Lake Barkley, Dale Hollow Tn, Manistique UP Michigan, and have never been skunked until Cpt Art.

Captain Art is very focused on his fishing, but with good reason. He knows how to help you catch amazing fish, all while doing so in an instructive, non-demeaning manner. My husband and I caught four king salmon and one steelhead, all while enjoying pleasant conversation with Captain Art. My husband is overjoyed with his 23 pound salmon and will probably be framing the picture. The captain made certain that we both caught fish and enjoyed our experience. He tells great stories and is efficient in all that he does. It made for an extraordinary day!

Made our reservation over the telephone and either Capt Art got it wrong or my wife did, but we arrived a few minutes late. After an initial cold spell from the Captain, we finally had a great fishing trip. Capt Art runs the show, he's the only mate, and when a fish bites you better be ready. A decent boat, and Capt Art turned out to be okey dokey. Kept us out there for about another hour over our allotted time so one of the guys could catch another one. He also gave good insight into the condition of the Great Lakes, and if what he says comes true, fishing in the lakes is in trouble. Anyway, like I say, he turned out to be very cooperative and congenial. Did a great job cleaning the fish and packing them in ice. Would definitely look up Captain Art at Steelhead Charters for the next trip.

Got a day with a brisk north wind, rollers between 5-7 feet. I was concerned, small craft advisory, Capt said he would not go out if it wasn't safe. Out with teenage boys, none had ever been sick before so we did not take meds. as we left harbor capt said don't sit down in the galley, it can make you seasick. I and my 17 year old stood in the fishing deck, my 14 year old and 22 year old sat in the galley. "dad I'm fine." into the waves and 10 minutes the 14 year old was sick. capt said he, the 22 yr old doesn't look so good either. it was so rough they could only run 5 lines. He soon had us "on the fish" and my 17 year old and I started working reeling in a bounty. we joked about the puke bait, as between fish I would empty the bucket the other two were sharing.we had doubles on four different times. the boat is a working boat, all about fishing, if you are looking for a pretty ride with alot of comfort, this is not it. The Barbara Rose reminded me of the boat in the Jaws movie, older with wood trim. It is all about getting on the fish and bringing them into the boat. the two sick guys hung on until we started seeing consistant 9 foot waves, time to head in. while the fish were being cleaned I had to run get a bigger cooler. the capt was right, said when the weather punishes you , it usually means you are going to catch fish. we walked away with just under 50 lbs cleaned salmon.
