Went here with husband and grandsons age 10 and 6. We had a great time. So much history to witness on 4 levels of the ship. Small gift shop. Helpful staff and volunteers.

Thsi is a great experience ,especially for Vets and history buffs...but NOT if you have any type of physical limitations!
They do not warn you that you have to use narrow ladders to go up and down between the different levels of the exhibits!

Overall, interesting historical site to visit. Enjoyed touring the ship. There were a lot of military exhibits, but I was disappointed that they didn't give much actual history of this ship and how it was used. Large exhibit of local veterans.
A little difficult to get to. Google does NOT give you the correct directions to the parking lot, so just stay on the main road and look for signage.
I suggest wearing gloves as you will have to touch a lot of frequently touched areas to navigate the ship and climb several ladders.

I served on an LST during the Vietnam war as a Marine, LST1144, the USS Washtenaw County. Getting to go through one again, realizing how small and cheap they are was an eye opener.

As 'something to do,' the museum onboard is excellent, crawling around the boat is great and there is a submarine to visit nearby as well. They show films on the deck in summer though I am not sure about during COVID. This is a great visit for families of veterans and an interest in the military or in military history.

A great Museum and memorial to all those who served in WWII.
Great recreation of life aboard the 393 which served all over the world, and really great personal stories told of the many that served.

This ship effected me more than I thought it would. It's one of two survivng LST Landing ships. As I walked the decks, climbed the ladders (up & down!) All I kept thinking was "this boat landed in Okanowa!!". Men fought (&some lost their lives!) From this very ship!!! It's a good way to teach our children just what our uncle's (mine) & grandfathers did to keep our nation safe!! I'm 5'3" tall, & cannot imagine what it would be been like trying to run through those narrow halls, the steep ladder/stairs!

You need a good 2-3 hours to do justice to this ship. Just amazing. The people that take care of it are doing a fantastic job. We bought a bunch of stuff in the gift shop - part of the proceeds go to the up keep of the ship. It is one of the few remaining ships that was at the Normandy invasion. Worth It!!

Nicely restored LST with great history. It was used to carry new automobiles from Muskegon to Milwaukee after it came to the Great Lakes after the war. There are very few of these left to see, and well worth the time.
