Once you are in Nicaragua, you keep hearing about and seeing paintings of Ruben Dario, the most famous poet and diplomat of the country. We went to this museum which was actually his childhood house. There were interesting photos and information about his life and his funeral. The story of his wives was really interesting.

Leon was a side trip chosen from literature from tour operators on a cruise. It is a long drive EACH WAY on 2 lane roads occupied by slow moving vehicles. The museum is Ruben Dario's home and has many period furnishings and family photos. NO PHOTOGRAPHY IS ALLOWED IN THE MUSEUM. The building and courtyard are lovely.

Unique experience being in the home of Dario. His body lies entombed in the Cathedral in Leon, overseen by a lion. This house is where he allegedly wrote his first poem. See his bed. It happens that it was also the confinement place of another of Nicaragua's greats, Alfonso Cortes, said to be more profound than Dario. He had mental problems and was confined behind bars in his room. See handwritten poems of Dario's. Well worth a visit. We had an English speaking guide, Noel. He was exceptional.

Was not allowed in since I would not give a volunteer donation. I didn't bring not a single coin with me. Left all at hotel. Instead some young fellow with uniform sitting on a bench playing with his phone was very rude to us.
Shame on this filthy town of Leon shame on the ministry of tourism and arts.

This museo former house of Nicaragua’s most famous poet is free of charge recommend donation. Very pleasing cool spot in bustling Leon. Neat to see inside a home of that time with some period furniture. Very nice display- all spanish. Worth the trip for history, literature, architecture nerds. Coffee shop Libeula next door is really good.

This is more than we expected. There are painting from before 1000AD. It has amazing historical paintings about the culture and wars in Latin America. There are artifacts from the indigenous people in Nicaragua as well.

Great place to look around. Well kept. Helpful staff, nice toilets. We really wanted to find out more about the famous poet. It is nice to walk around, however I did not find us staying there that long to absorb as much as I could have, hard to capture the kids attention- better for teens and adults

Having studied and traveled in Nicaragua for 3 weeks, I learned a lot about this country's beloved and famous poet, Ruben Dario. So, I wanted to make sure I visited the museum and house where he briefly lived. It was well worth it to see his personal belongings, furniture, books, and numerous and very interesting photos documenting his incredible life. Even if you don't speak or read Spanish, you can learn a lot, especially if you take a tour or just join one of the many that go on all during the day. During the 1 1/2 hours I was there, probably at least 4 groups came through with English speaking guides. There is no fee to enter but a donation is suggested.

It is a big corner ancient house from 1800, with roof tile ceiling and a central beautiful corridor, like Antique houses were built long time ago. In this house, Ruben Dario spent his childhood and adolescence, as this was his grandparents home. You can appreciate so many details in decoration and furniture from that era like beds, desks, tables, wardroves, etc. There are also murals with lots of information about Dario´s life. No fee for entrance. Worth to visit.

Still not sure how any Dario's there are as it seems cousins had the same name.

Don't know why he was so famous as nothing is in English and there are no guides available.
