Playa Poneloya is not your 5 star resort location. If that is what you are looking for don't come here. If though as I suspect that you have traveled to Leon for local flavor then this is your type of place. The beaches are clean and beautiful. You will find locals and internationals from all parts of the world. You... More

20 minutes from Leon; we drove in our rental car to the beach. Great place to spend the day, not sure about staying there.

Nice beach. This address is mostly residential. Their are a few restaurants at the end of the beach, but mostly mom and pop small places. Las Penitas has more rooms and restaurants.

Loved Poneloya. was a very nice clean beach, with no crowds. Most days we had miles of beach to ourselves. It's a fairly steep beach at the top but gets very flat near the water, and is quite large at low tide. The sand is darker colored, but still quite soft. the Rocky points were interesting to poke around and... More

Nice and clean. Never too crowded unless it's Easter or Christmas. Waves are a bit rough and no lifeguards anywhere on the strip.

Beach has black volcanic sand. Water is for surfers as the waves are intense. Not much as far as amenities here but it is quiet and serene.

I took the bus from the Subtiava Market in León to Poneloya (12.5 Cordobas, 20km, 1/2hr) and got off at the end and walked down to the beach about 100 yards. Nice clean beach, no crowds, good size waves and several places to eat along the beach.

Another beautiful beach with fabulous stretches of sand. There were maybe 10 other people there that day so we had the beach to ourselves. Check out Las Panitas Beach nearby
