This is a beautiful cathedral that has had some ongoing restoration work done. One of the highlights is buying a ticket to climb the stairs to the roof. It is a very manageable climb, although tight in some spots. Once to the top you will...More

The featured picture of the cathedral must be quite old, as it now gleams white and pristine over the adjacent public square. We visited on a 1-day excursion from our cruise ship, and we had a professional guide who filled us in on the history...More

I went first week of September 2018. There has been ongoing restoration in the interior and exterior of the church. When I went, the left side (facing the front) of the church was being restored. The church has two entrances to the roof, the entrances...More

The view is amazing from the top, you can see how many volcanos surround Léon! In the interior there's a grave and a lot of beautiful paintings!

Great church to visit in the centre of Leon. Be sure to go up on the roof, great views. You can get the tickets for the roof around the back of the church and the entrance to climb the steps is on the left hand...More

Still in process of restoration. The inside is a quiet escape. You can sit and listen as worshippers sing their prayers. This view of city is really nice.

You don’t have any interesting colonial style buildings here. Only one place which you can visit is that Basilica but watch out for your wallet cause there are plenty of thiefs around that place especially in the evening. The roof is nice but if you...More

OK. Its an impressive building in the grand scheme of things and has history for sure but its just a big white building. You can access the roof for a small fee and there are fair views from the top. Its quite cheap and probably...More

A big church in a city, yes of course you've seen loads - this one is well worth a visit too. It was hot and busy outside with Semana Santa in progress. Inside there was simple and beautiful architecture without all the ostentatiousness other churches...More

Just wanted to get some thoughts on my itinerary for 8 days and some questions. I will be arriving on a Saturday and leaving on the following Sunday. I know the night life in Leon is great, should I save it for last to see it on a weekend? Also wanted to see if there are anything I'm missing that I should be doing in these cities? I see many people raving about Leon but I don't see much to do, any suggestions besides what I have? I purposefully put two days instead of another in Granada...More

Looks pretty good. I might skip San Juan del Sur just to cut down on travel. You can surf at Las Penitas and Poneloya, about 45 minutes from Leon by cheap bus. That would save you a day to visit Laguna de Apoyo near Granada or relax and poke around Leon. I like the art museum in Leon - Centro de Arte Fundacion Ortiz-Gurdian. Good collection in three colonial houses. If you're a photographer. be sure to go up to the roof of the cathedral around 4, just before the roof closes. (You have to buy...More
