We combined this visit with one to the Laughing Whitefish Falls further west.
As you head west out of Munising on M-94 you should see the sign on the right after 14 miles. After exiting onto AuTrain Forest Lake Rd you will turn right on Power Dam Rd. We initially parked on the right to explore the upper falls but guys in hard hats directed us further down the road to the lower falls. The area is a hydroelectric power generating plant with the Au Train river dammed above the upper falls. The flow is thus limited by how much water the operators allow to pour from the reservoir.
We parked at the parking lot at the end of the road and walked down a short gravel road to bridge. Look for water pouring forth from the sandstone rock face on your left before heading onto the bridge. It was essentially a fresh water spring.
Look up at the lower falls from the bridge. This was a fairly wide but low waterfall with multiple small streams of water pouring at different points all along the face of the falls. The water volume was the least of the many falls we checked out during our time in the U.P. But it meant that visitors could allow their dogs to splash in the shallow water flow. And daring photographers could venture forth onto the falls themselves for some interesting pictures.
Look on-line and you can find pictures of the lower falls when a full flow is allowed from the dam upstream.

Neat waterfall, like in levels as it layered up/down and over the rocks, you could walk with your bare feet, or water shoes. A short walk to it. Not sure what it would be like if there was a lot of water flowing. Not crowded at all for a Saturday.

There is a short 500 ft walk to the falls. Once there be prepared to get wet. During the summer the falls are walkable. My 5-year-old had a great time walking through the river and climbing the falls. It was my daughter's favorite falls in the area.

This set of waterfalls is well off the beaten path yet easily accessible. No tough hiking or two-track roads required. There are two sets of waterfalls and each is magnificent in its own way. The upper falls is best viewed by scrambling down the dirt path to the river/creek itself. Here you can also see the water coming off the cliffs themselves too.
The lower falls are at a separate parking area a short distance away, then an easy walk down a graded gravel road and over a bridge. This would be a great place for a picnic.

Wonderfull little place to take a rest or enjoy a picknick. Only 200m (or so) from the parking lot, this is a great place to get your feet wet a bit and unwind. The water is easily accessible and gorgeous to see.

Hiawatha National Forest lovely waterfall in isolated area just off M94 and Au Train Forest Lake Road in the north Central Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Clearly marked, good parking, wide path. The falls spill down an exposed sandstone hillside, flows under a narrow foot bridge and splits into two branches. The east side is deep and swift moving and the other side is wide and sunlit. Touchingly beautiful waterfall in deciduous forest. Eight miles south of M28 at Au Train and 100 yards north of M94 on Forest Lake Road. Stay in designated parking areas.

We thought we had seen all the waterfalls we wanted to see, but since we were staying in Au Train, decided to check these out.
We found them to be amazingly beautiful! There were many cascades that seemed to go on forever. There was only one other person there unlike the other falls. I think people bypass it because of the hydroelectric plant on this property. It did not
diminish the beauty for us. I think it is a must see.

Make sure you start at the upper falls and hike down to the bottom and scale the rock ledge to the top. After your done being amazed on the upper falls, drive a 1/2 mile down the road and REALLY BE AMAZED at the lower falls. Get in the water, make a rock tower, have a picnic at the tables and go fishing on the power plant stream

we had a great time here. Be sure to go to the upper falls or you are missing out. We loved going off the beaten path and enjoying the views the upper falls gave us!

This is by far the best small falls in the UP. You can walk right out in the water if you want to. Very beautiful
