The 3 pm Spray Falls trip on a sunny 60 deg day provided great views of the bluffs. It was quite chilly on the top deck - so dress warm with hats and gloves.

We lined up about 2 pm and were 5th group - so got best seats on right side of boat. In addition to the top opened seats, there were two lower levels of seating.

The seats up top were crowded with no social distancing required by the company. It was clearly announced that there was plenty of space in the inside seating areas of the lowest deck for social distancing if you were uncomfortable.

The trip was really only about 1.5 hrs with lots of time traveling slowly into and out of the harbor and waiting our turn to dock. A bit pricey but great way to see the bluffs given that rain during our visit precluded the long hike to Castle Rock to see the shoreline and cliffs up close.

We bought tickets in advance (I highly recommend during the busy season) and enjoyed this cruise touring the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Grand Island on Lake Superior. We had a nice sunny day and a smooth ride. On the way out, the tour guide provided lots of interesting tidbits along the way about the sights we saw on the mainland - including some humor guaranteed to bring a "groan" to break up the reading.

Our captain took us quite close to shore, and at one point we cruised into one of the inlets so we could get an "up close and personal" view of the beautiful water and rock formation.

On the way back, we had silence for a while, and then some tidbits about Grand Island.

I would recommend that you sit on the right for better views - and also close to one of the speakers. I also recommend you have easy access to the back of the boat on the lower level for great pictures. Get there early! We got there 25 minutes before departure; and couldn't get the seats we wanted - lots of people lined up.

There is a gift shop at the dock area if you want to purchase souvenirs.

During the Covid-19 era, I was hesitant to book any sort of trip like this, but I felt very safe and with the boats at half capacity it is much more spacious and allows for social distancing. The “classic” tour is about 2.5 hours and slowly cruises along the rocks. The guided tour was entertaining and very relaxed. There is another tour on a pontoon boat that is slightly faster and I believe sees waterfalls further down the coast if that is your thing. However I truly loved the classic tour as it allows you to slowly enjoy the coastline and accompanying scenery. The crew was respectful and wore their masks the entire time. I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see the rocks and beaches without the work of kayaking or hiking. Additionally, if you are hesitant to book like I was, please know that half capacity really does lend itself to social distancing especially if you sit in the main cabin and not on top!!!)

Pictured Rocks Cruises were the best! You really need to see Pictured Rocks from the water to fully appreciate their beauty. We booked a cruise after our kayak tour was cancelled due to rough water. Unfortunately, the tour faced the same rough waves. The company did a great job with setting expectations about travel conditions and the refund policy if the boat needed to turn around before we left shore. We got through 4/5 of the tour and had to turn around. However, the company was super generous and still gave us a 50% refund...even though we had seen most of the sights. The captain Katerina and the all female crew (which is awesome) kept us safe from waves and COVID 19 with social distancing. The shop was great and we even won a random drawing for a free photo book. Great company with amazing customer service!

We took the 4:00 PM Classic Cruise. Our Captain, Joel, was knowledgable and told funny "Dad" jokes and spun great stories. The crew, London, and Cheyenne were attentive and helpful. We want to give a special shout out and profound gratitude to Keegan who Captained the Spray Falls Cruise but helped my brother in law with mobility issues to board the boat and made certain his trip was special. When we returned to the dock the crew also transported him back to the car in a golf cart.

If you have anyone in your party with mobility issues I recommend letting Pictured Rocks Cruises know ahead of time, arriving early, and advocating for assistance strongly. The waiting area is gravel and in the sun. It is difficult to board to the board but it can be done with assistance.

The ride itself was smooth. The lake and rocks are truly awe-inspiring, especially on a beautiful day as we had. The colors of the sea, the sky, and the rocks are incredibly vivid. We all treasure this experience. If you are going to Pictured Rocks you simply must take a cruise to truly see them.

Also of note, we are grateful of how they handled everything regarding Covid-19 and the kind, persistent insistence of mask-wearing for all, cleaning, and social distancing.

We took the sunset spray fall cruise. What a trip! It started as a beautiful 70 degree trip but as the sun went down and the wind picks up, you notice it sitting on top. But it was worth it! The captain was awesome and gave a great narrative about the history and the different areas of the cruise. He made sure that everyone got a great view of everything on both sides of the boat. And we went on it as the fall colors hit their peak. Would highly recommend spending the extra money and go to spray falls and if you can go at sunset I would do that! They also have a great gift shop also.

The cruise to see Pictured Rocks and the Lake Superior shore was one of my much anticipated plans for our trip to UP. Mother Nature wasn’t on board. I purchased tickets online in advance. The day of our Sunset cruise it poured down rain so we were allowed to reschedule even though there were inside seats. The next day, our only day left in the area, there was extremely heavy fog. Prior to leaving shore we could have received 100% refund but we took our chances hoping the fog would lift. We went on the cruise and could barely see the cliff. The captain decided to turn back and he explained we would all receive 50% refund or the chance to reschedule. This company put customers first. A true rarity in today’s world. I would definitely recommend this tour. Especially after booking in advance, a person is only guessing on the weather. Thank you to Pictured Rock Cruises.

Our family chartered a sunset cruise with Pictured Rocks Cruises to say our goodbyes to a beloved family member. We traveled to Munising, MI from several east coast states and planned for months. On the day of our scheduled sunset cruise the weather forecast was looking ominous for the evening hours so I called to see if we could bump up the time frame. Zack went about trying to coordinate that for us and we were able to leave an hour and a half earlier. Captain Ron and his two crew members were great, On the outward journey they gave us the names of all of the formations of the beautiful scenery we were seeing and some of the history. The weather was a perfect. Although we missed the sunset - this cruise was absolutely breath taking with some of God’s most beautiful artwork on full display. On our return trip they allowed us time to say our goodbyes and send our beloved aunt on her final journey. Captain Ron and his crew were very sensitive to our family time and most helpful in seeing it through. It was a wonderful experience and we will treasure the memories always.

Our family of 5 really enjoyed the boat cruise. The tour guide gave a lot of history and information about the Pictured Rocks and Lake Superior which was interesting. Due to COVID-19 the boats are only allowed to have 50% capacity so be sure to get your tickets ahead of time. You will need to wear a mask on board. Bring a lite rain jacket. This is a great way to see the Pictured Rocks and a view you will not get when hiking the area. It is really beautiful.

This was a wonderful boat cruise to the beautiful Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The captain and crew were personable and informative and the scenery was amazing. Try to go on a sunny day as the rock formations are more impressive with the sun shining on them. We went in the morning, but the afternoon might be better as far as the sunlight goes. I would also recommend sitting on the right side as that is the side that faces the lakeshore on the way out and the captain seemed to spend more time going out than coming back. The front of the boat is also better than the back. Due to Covid restrictions, we were not allowed to move about the boat, so where you sat was really important. Get to the dock at least 45 minutes before sailing to get the best seat. This is the one “must do” in Munising.
