Five of us booked a guided kayak tour with Northern Waters Adventures and it was amazing! Our original trip was cancelled due to water conditions and we were able to rebook for the next day (August 28th). Two of us were new to the experience and three of us had done it before on a perfectly sunny, beautiful and warm day. That was fantastic! One of us (me!) was unhappy about the weather prediction (rain, about 66 degrees) for our evening tour hoped all day it would be cancelled. Thank goodness it wasn't! Seeing the Pictured Rocks in any light is gorgeous and for those of us who had done it previously, it was a different but great experience. For those who had never done it, it was spectacular. The Northern Adventures staff did a great job. We were assured that conditions were safe and that the water was actually "like glass." And it was. (The water was also surprisingly warm and I was dressed enough that I never felt cold). During the "lesson" prior to getting on the lake, it is easy to see that the staff are trained and knowledgeable and take safety seriously. Our guides, Phil and Brody, were skilled and knowledgeable, and also a lot of fun. It made the trip great. I highly recommend it and Northern Waters Adventures!

September 13, 2021, we had the wonderful experience of a full day kayaking experience to see the Pictured Rocks with Captain Carl. I had the good fortune to plan the kayaking adventure with Captain Carl with winds and weather in mind. It was an awesome day with a blue sky and calm winds. We were provided dry bags, lunch bags with ice packs, bottled water, spray jackets, and standard equipment for paddling tandem. We then were bused to Miner's Beach where our kayaks were fitted along with receiving a safety briefing. We took our time and paddling along the Superior shoreline where we were able to marvel at all the beautiful patterns of sandstone all the way to the Arches. Captain Carl was patient, knowledgeable, and humorous. Northern Waters Adventures is a great safe operation and I highly recommend them.

Scenery and guides were amazing. Was lucky enough to get a last minute opening the night before a 9:00 pictured rocks kayak tour. It was a cool morning, but water was smooth as glass. Workers at meeting spot were great, got everyone fitted with life vests, dry bags, bug spray, etc. Shuttled to Miner's Beach for orientation and adjustments to kayaks. Guides were Alexandra & Olivia. They introduced themselves and quickly learned the names of all tour participants. Tour was awesome, guides took good care of all, and shared lots of great info about Pictured Rocks. Also took us kayaking over a shipwreck. Tour was amazing, highly recommended.

Perfect way to experience some truly remarkable and beautiful rock formations and scenery. Our guides were Alexandria and Olivia, both knowledgeable, experienced and fun. Since not many on the tour are overly experienced at kayaking (myself included), the kayaks tend to diverge. I only mention this to suggest staying as close as possible to the guides. They have good stories and info, but you can only hear them if you are close (they are not going to bring megaphones). The last point before you turn around involves kayaking over a shipwreck. It is difficult to see much of anything, but you can see a little and it has a novelty factor to it. Kayaking is definitely a must in Munising and you probably don't want to try it without a guide. My wife and 11 year old son were able to handle the 1/2 day excursion without getting exhausted. That being said, more than a half a day for any of us would have probably been too much. Be super mindful of the weather! We went on a perfect day...calm waters and warm enough for shorts and t-shirts. Other days you probably will want to bring a jacket. Awesome awesome awesome.

Tour was cancelled due to weather. It did rain a couple of days before and the day before the planned tour the water was a bit choppy. Cost me $20 nonrefundable charge. We were offered reschedule in 2-3 days, could not extend vacation for that.

On the actual tour day, weather was beautiful, there were no waves and there were dozens of kayaks on the water. I understand that weather is unpredictable, but they could have given us the option to keep the reservation, and if weather was fine, go for it.

I booked the evening trip to see Pictured Rocks. (July 17) I highly recommend this trip because the sun setting on the rocks makes the colors even more vivid. There were only four of on the trip, accompanied by two guides. Our guides were outstanding and extremely knowledgeable about the area. I learned far more than I ever expected! It was a peaceful evening trip, very relaxed. This was a great place to take a trip with and if I ever get back again, I will definitely book another trip!

We did the half day kayak trip to some of the closer points of interest and it was very cool! It was a bit crowded with our large group (7 tandem kayaks plus guides) and the many other groups that were out on the water but it was worth it. The water is beautiful and the cliffs are so tall and impressive to see from below. My only complaint was that it took two hours from the start time to get out on the water. I understand that we needed to be shuttled the 30 minutes to the beach and to be given safety info/equipment but it definitely seemed like the process could be streamlined because there was a lot of waiting around. The guides did a lot of explaining about kayak techniques and gave everyone time to practice and we moved at a very relaxed pace so if you're not sure if you can handle two hours of paddling, don't worry too much! And for someone who has done a decent amount of casual kayaking, I also learned some useful new things during the instructional portion!

Really wonderful LOCALLY OWNED tour worth every penny! The guides took educating paddlers of all ages and skill levels the ins and outs of the boat and took safety seriously. After hiking mosquito and chapel falls this was such an amazing way to get a different vantage point of the rocks. We had a beautiful, glassy day out on the lake and would suggest the morning or evening tours so that you can avoid most of the disturbance of the big tour ships.

My Sister and I both went hiking in Pictured Rocks and also kayaked with the Tour provided. It was absolutely amazing! It was our first time in the Upper Peninsula and we both enjoyed it so much! Both the scenery and sunsets were breathtaking beyond words. The water there was so crystal clear you could look straight to the bottom of the lake .. highly recommend this endeavor !! Hope you enjoy it as much as we both did…

We were very impressed with the level of professionalism and the care for our safety while out on the water. The guides remembered the entire groups names right away. The guides were helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, and very present!! The scenery is simply majestic, and you are able to kyak right up to the rocks. The only negative I could find to say would be it is hard to find the meeting point right outside of town, even after typing in the address. Once we found it, everything from start to finish was well organized and COVID safety precautions in place. I would highly recommend this business to see the incredible sights of Pictured Rocks.
