The water was not that hot for me .
The place is crowded. There were limited common buckets, so if you are planning to have a bath, better to bring your own bucket. Using soap is prohibited. There are separate changing rooms are provided for ladies and gents.

Our driver mentioned this place on our way to Trincomalee so we decided to pop in.

It's not the sort of place you spend hours but it's a nice place to stop off. The water in the springs is very warm and, despite it being warm that day, it was oddly refreshing and cooling.

Be careful of the monkeys in the grounds as they'll spot any snacks you're carrying and will chase you for them.

You park in the edge of the springs and have to walk through a market to get there. The market is a nice mix of stalls and I didn't feel like I was going to be ripped off. Our driver would have made sure we weren't but it just didn't feel like that kind of place anyway. We bought some locally made sweets and some spices before making our way back to the car, via the ice cream man for a much needed cold snack

It’s abt 7km from triconmalee bus station. Take a vavuniya route bus . Tell driver to stop at Kanniya hot springs. Just walk 1km . 1st found on right mohaiydin mosque and Sufi mazar. From the hot springs walk up 200meters you will find the few 1000 of years old Sufi 40ft mazar ( I been 1998) but now Buddha monk close the way . Last time no monk or any Buddha control. Everyone can go ( now to everyone can go ) but showing one religious hold . It’s okey no problem 😃

We came here to have a look at the hot springs but instead were welcomed by an atrocious stench coming from the public toilets close by and the very unappealing sight of people bathing! We couldn't even get close to the wells because of the crowd. Very disappointed that we drove all that way just to see a bunch of people taking a bath -_- We got here towards evening so I'm not sure if the place might be less crowded at other hours during the day. Very poorly maintained though and a complete waste of time!

We drove up to the hot springs hoping to see the spring in its naturel state .Unfortunately,it was not to be as it was all cemented and made into three accessible wells from which you have to draw water from a pail. The place was packed with lots of locals and it looked very unhygenic from my point of view. You have to remove your shoes and change into something suitable which I found extremely troubling. The place looked dirty and the crowd was indisciplined as everybody was rushing to get hold of the pail which was difficlut to get your hands on. I opted out and just watched the fun for a couple of minutes. However, I ended up buying some Palm Sugar blocks ( Brown sugar ) made from the fruits of the Palmyra Palm Tree. There is an entrance fee levied for foreigners. Not something which you regret if you did not have the time to go.

Kanniya Hot Spring is a place were you find 7 wells with 7 different temperatures. The wells are built into square shape and is about 3-4 feet deep. People believe this water has heeling powers and they come to bathe in this waters. The water runs out after about 10-15 buckets are taken out but fills up very quickly. The place has a history which goes back to Ravana period.....
You could say it's a must place to visit if you are in Trincomelee even though it has become a bit commercialized.

I visited the hot spring many years ago and was horrified by the changes. The grounds are poorly maintained with trash strewn everywhere. The wells do not look particularly clean either, so our party did not go in. What was especially sad was that the wells have lost the spiritual, almost magical feel they had previously.

The enormous military presence, like everywhere in the Trincomalee area certainly does not help. On our way to the wells, we were stopped at a check point. A soldier asked to ride with us to the wells. He might have been getting a ride quite simply. I certainly was not comfortable having an armed soldier in the same vehicle as my sleeping three-year old. But, you can hardly refuse when an armed man in uniform asks you for a ride, can you? The hot wells are full of soldiers too, ordering people around at the ticket counters and being generally very rude. Quite unpleasant.

The hot springs are a local attraction and I think the highlight is the people watching. The water is warm-hot but this is not first world clean.
