We passed this bell while walking the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress circuit. Bulky but impressive.
The bell is located at the summit of Paldasan Mountain. The bell symbolizes king Jeongjo’s love and respect for his father.
We had no idea that for a fee one can ring the bell but apparently that is available if you ask in the Visitors Center.

Hyowon’s Bell is located on the top of Paldalsan (Mountain) which is in Suwon Hwaseong Fortress. You can enjoy the fortress and see Suwon city from the top of mountain. You have to pay for ringing the bell and pray.

this 3.54m height bell is so great and most attractive thing is that
you could strike the bell for 3times by yourself, first time is praying for your parents's favor, second is for your family's health and happiness, third is for your development and wish fulfillment.
Hearing the magnificent and long-lasting sound would be a special experience!

Hike up to the Paldansan you will see the hyowon bell, there is little explanation on how it was built there, you may ring the bell by paying a minimal fee. Once for good health, twice for family's health and 3 times to make your dream comes true

A huge bell indeed, and you can hear it by paying 1000 won to strike it with huge piece of wood. It was an experience and what is one dollar?

Once you have made it up on the western side of Hwaseong Fortress there is a large bell to discover, known as Hyowon’s Bell, it was created for the eighteenth century King Jeongjo. The dimensions of the bell are 3.5 metres high, 2.2 metres wide and weighs 11.3 tonne, it resides on a platform under the canopy of a small ornate pavilion, both the pavilion and the bell are beautiful to observe; the fine detail of the relief scenes on the surface of the bell, the ornate wooden carving of the canopy. Adjacent to the bell is a ticket office where you can pay 1000 won to toll the bell, the bell is always rung three times using the very large wooden mallet, as the story goes once in gratitude for the love of your parents, two for family happiness and three for self-improvement.

The bell is in the middle of the trail when you visit the Suwon Fortress. It is huge and it is probably the biggest one I have seen (in person). There is really nothing special about this bell - just an old Korean bronze bell. It doesn't have a dangling tongue inside. Instead you have to hit it with a wood beam from outside. Do I did, 3 times, after I paid 1000W. Well, everyone has a first time..... and I have peace.

This is at the west part of the wall. If you climb from the west and follow the wall you will reach this structure. Note beyond this point there will be a ticket check if you wish to proceed beyond. Not a 1000 won can't solve.
