Baluarte is one of the place you should visit when you're at Ilocos Sur. There is no entrance fee. You can either walk inside or get a shuttle for only 50 pesos per head. Snacks, drinks and souvenirs are just beside the main entrance. Great location for picture taking.

who goes to a zoo to see dead animals?
Dec 2019 • Friends
how do you run a zoo and have half of the animals be dead and taxidermied? dont know how this zoo is still running. horrible care of animals and nothing to be proud of. the governor should be put in a 6x2 cage with the tigers and lions and see how he likes it.

Zoo in the North

Kids would surely love the places, especially the animals. People would also be amazed how those wild animals are being caught and captured.

We arrived at the place mid afternoon, so we did not enter the actual zoo anymore. We just roamed around, and dropped by the museum. Since it was a Christmas break, there were really a lot of people. On the way to the zoo, there are a lot of stores that sell souvenirs and food.

Baluarte: Public Zoo of Mr Singson
Mar 2020
This zoo doesn't have an entrance fee. Had visited it first in 2012 then 8 years later I visited to see the changes and it not that beautiful as before now. Yes, they add the collection of animals hunted by Mr. Singson but some animals were absent and some parts of the zoo are gone and some are destroyed. I was excited to see the snake but didn't see it that day. :( I hope the zoo will return to its famous glory :)

Emphasis on the 'mini' in mini zoo.

The only interesting thing there was the collection of dead animals killed by the Governer. Everything else was 'meh'. There was an ostrich on the loose. They should add more animals. The entrance was free, though they accpet donations. To see other animals like giraffe, lion, antelopes, you have to pay Php 250.00.

Good day! I just want to know the latest contact number in Baluarte, is it (77) 415 3196..i keep on calling this number but no one answers. Aside for having a trip to Baluarte one of this days, I want to have an appointment to Mr. Chavit Singson, so it is important for me to contact someone from there..Thank you. Do you have email address or celphone number?

Money CAN buy happiness
Dec 2019 • Family
When my family went to visit we didn’t understand the mechanics of the shuttles. We thought it was just a ride to the steep road to the top, we were wrong. The zoo doesn’t do cage animals (most of them anyways) they have them in a large enclosed space and have the shuttles drive through the space. You will still see some animals without paying, like the peacocks and some deer and there is an animal show. You will also find a gallery filled with stuffed or taxidermy animals hunted by Gov. Chavit Singson himself.

Nice Experience, but a bit sad for the animals
Nov 2019
It's very nice to see different types of animals up close, however, if you think about the animals, it's quite sad.

- Variety: There are a wide variety of animals, but it seems like they are placed on mostly unkempt cages, some are just roaming around the hot sun together with the tourists (ie: deers, donkeys, horses, ostriches, etc). Not sure if this is even safe.

- Cages: Definitely unkempt.

- Museum: It's so weird to see the owner boasting about his game from hunting yet he also owns a zoo? It doesn't make any sense.

I say, if you don't think about these things, you can go. It's just sad to see that these animals are so domesticated they take pictures with tourists and they're taken away from their pride/family at such a young age (lions from 4 months old are there) only to serve as an attraction. Takes away their instinct.

Chavit's Place
May 2019
This is my second time in this place and it seems to have deteriorated through the years. Although the animals are well taken cared, the place needs a little sprucing up, in terms of repainting, cleaning and more watered greens to make it pleasing to the eyes. The museum is the high light of the tour as it show cases the various safari trips of Chavit abroad. The down side is, animal lovers would not be comfortable in this place as it shows stuffed animals and animal heads. Still a place to see while you're in Vigan.
