Very crowded temple on a Saturday. We waited for two hours to board cable car. After reaching the top, we found a queue more than 2 KMs long outside the temple going through the streets. No queue management. Hence lot of people joining the queue in the middle and no one to control. We felt it may not be possible to have Darshan even after few hours of waiting. Hence we waited for more than hour for cable car to go down.

What a splendid trip back and forth to Manakamana temple. There are two ways to go to this temple, but the most exciting way is using of Cable Car. From bottom of the hill on the main road, you just pay the fee and get on the cable car by going through the line and in one cable car a max of 6 people to sit, no standing. Doors closed, cable car kept moving and it takes 10 minutes to reach the top of the hill where temple is. The 10 minutes, cable car taking you with a splendid views of Tamba Kosi river (huge), then lots of small hills below you and lots of pine trees below you, which is a splendid view, few roof tops of the houses on the hills. It is unforgettable CABLE CAR trip. Temple is just 10 minutes away from the Cable Car drop of point. It is a hindu temple where the belief is to offering a minimum of either flowers, birds, chicken, goat and prey for what you want.

While driving from Kathmandu to Chitwan National Park, our itinerary included a stop at Manakamana Temple. Oh my--I so wished we had skipped this. First, we arrived near lunch time, and apparently the cable car closes for at least 90 minutes during lunch! So we had to wait. Once it reopened, there were hoards of people in line--thank goodness for the "skip the line" ticket--definitely get that. We disembarked from the cable car and then had to hike and hike, past hundreds of vendors, to finally reach the temple. Once there, it was too crowded to enjoy.

Not worth the stop. If you chose to visit, I hope your experience is better.

It's a popular Hindu temple situated on the top of a hill. There is no doubt that I liked the place quite a lot as I am starting to believe in Hindu religious beliefs. You will enjoy the beautiful cable car ride to reach the temple through beautiful green forests. It's really a worthy place that many people are not aware of. The place will also give you some beautiful views of the surrounding places and surely you will enjoy. You won't see many tourists there but lots of Hindu people coming to ask for something with this dream fulfilling goddess!

Manakamana Devi is the Goddess who grant wishes . we can visit this temple in the midway (Kurintar) while going to Pokhara from Kathamandu by road . just 5 minutes ride from highway a well maintained ,clean road heads towards cable car . Nice sorounding with some natural and some manmade settings . There is a huge hall to accomodate a large number of devotees in a queue to procure tickets for cable car . One can trek the way to Manakamana which will take nearly 5 hours .The cable car takes about 15 min to reach the temple (the height is about 1300 metre ) .it starts from 9am to 5pm and lunch break starts from 12am to 1.30 pm . it was november and we observed orange trees with ripe oranges everywhere . There was a large queue for Darshan .While moving in the queue we can see the different forms of Goddess also the place as well as act of sacrifice ( blood and only blood ) . It will take complete one day for a trip to pokhara from Kathamandu including Manakamana .It is a place of worth seeing for the religious people and also for nature lovers .

Manakamana is the Hindu goddess who is believed to fulfill your wish. People go there with their individual wishes, hoping they get fulfilled after the prayer. People also remembers/prays to goddess Manakamana to fulfill their wishes and they visit the temple after their wishes get fulfilled.

You can reach the temple by climbing the hill also but the comfortable way is to go there by cable car. Cable car rate is present here: http://www.chitawoncoe.com.np/manakamana/html/cablecar.html

Hotel rates varies in week days and week ends. Generally, as number of people visiting on weekend high, the hotel rates are also high at that time. We heard that they say around Rs. 750 on weekends. We had gone there on weekday. So, they were saying Rs. 500 per night for a twin bed with attached bathroom and TV. Hot water in bathroom was provided in the morning time only. There was free WiFi service.

After you land from cable car, you still have to climb stairs for 15 more minutes. You will get hotels from the beginning to the top near the temple. All hotels have the same rate. So, it is beneficial to stay in the hotel at the top which are near the temple. So that you can quickly go to the temple for prayer. We had stayed in Manakamana Heaven lodge which is near the temple.

We had our lunch at Bhagirath Marwadi Restaurant. It's a vegetarian restaurant. It's located near the temple. You will see it before reaching the temple. We had a very tasty lunch over there. Price was reasonable as well (Rs. 150 per person). However, other food items were expensive. Well, the food items are generally quite expensive in all places around this temple.

Cable car ride is a wonderful experience. Returning back to the station from the temple is a more thrilling one.

You can go uphill to this temple by the only cable car of Nepal. It is a 5 minutes ride up above the forest. The site is nothing special in itself but the temple is very important for the local Hindus and they flock to offer prayers on a daily basis.

Experience climatic difference in just 10 minutes by visiting Manakamana, apart from visiting the famous wish fulfilling temple and town on the hilltop which used to take hours before rope way was built.

If you are n the way from Kathmandu to Pokhara (or other way of course)it is on the half way so definitely a place you can rest, do lunch, have a beautiful view on the river and it should take less than 2 hours... I went there on the weekend and is was packed with many people in front of me waiting in line for the ticket. I didn't expect it but like a tourist i didn't wait in line but bought ticket and asked the staff to get me in the cable car (total waiting was less than 3 minutes i guess)... going down i did the same. Still the 14 $ or something like that was not so cheap if you ask me but still place i highly recommend to see... Manakamana temple where they sacrifice goats and chickens while young couples come to pray for their future baby is real undiscovered gem - not many tourists see it. :)

Manakamana Devi temple is a highly sacred place of the Hindu Goddess Bhagwati, an incarnation of Parvati. The name Manakamana is derived from two words, Mana, meaning heart and Kamana, meaning wish. It is believed that the Goddess Bhagwati rewards those who make the pilgrimage to her shrine by granting their wishes, and she is especially popular with Newari newlyweds who pray for sons.
