Just a village which has been renovated to attract more tourists. The remodeling is done based on traditional Okinawa style. A short visit of 30mins is sufficient.

Even as a complete outsider and novice to the indigenous culture, you should still be able to enjoy Taketomi Island. My family stayed at a hotel on the island itself, and we spent one afternoon walking around the village. It was a fascinating and beautiful experience. There was nothing academic to it, nor were there any special sights, the attraction really was being able to live the 'rustic' feeling pervasive to the place.…

The village of Taketomi island is a beautiful jump into Ryukyu traditions, architecture, life style, creed... shisa to guard every house. Very nice if you are interested in their tradition.

This island is an easy 15-minute ride, twice an hour, from Ishigaki. It's just big enough to be worth renting a bicycle, but you have to dress for heat and humidity (and wear a hat an sun protection.) We didn't bother to go in the water (dangerous currents prevent swimming), but enjoyed seeing the pretty beaches, as well as the historic residential homes.…

Just as imagined you can feel real atmosphere of Okinawa. Time passes so slowly there,people is not hasting, as if everything goes slow, I love this!
