This museum is located in the house of a former Buddhist priest/pawnbroker. Visitors can see a couple of rooms of his home and also explore his storage warehouse, where he would have kept the various items he accepted as collateral when lending money. What really makes the visit is the helpful docent who kindly walks visitors through explaining the history of Tochigi as a river town, the construction of fire-proof warehouses, and other aspects of life in this area during the 18th and 9th centuries.
