A must visit place. Great architecture and impeccable structures. Avoid summer seasons as the floors will be very hot to walk and the heat as well.

I had visited The Brihadeeswar aka The Big Temple at Thanjavur (Tanjore) during mid january. I have chosen that time because the the Great Thyagaraja Music Festival(170th) was held during that time. It is at Thiruvaiyaru, some 15kms from the Big Temple. Thiruvaiyaru and the Big temple was my target destinations. Brihadeeswarar temple is the main architectural brilliance of South... More

Brihadeeswara Temple or the Big Temple is the first foremost place to visit when you are in Thanjavur. One can admire the sculptural beauty of the ancient Chola dynasty. We went there during the last full moon, and we were blessed to witness the temple Poochoridhal - floral abhishekam. This temple is crowded during weekends, public holidays and full moon... More

What an amazing place to visit! Although it was a hot day, there was plenty of shade in the colonnades running around the perimeter. The are many intricate carvings to be seen on the towers. Well worth a visit when in Thanjavur.

The sheer size of the temple complex is sure to amaze you as you walk in to this 1000 year old temple. We took a guide to better understand the history of the place. You can spend hours taking in the intricate carvings covering almost the entire temple complex.
