This is a very traditional Thai style Buddhist temple. The entrance is flanked by two Yakshas or guardians coloured with glass, while the roof has traditional Naga style finial. The meditation hall has a large golden statue of Buddha like most Thai temples. The other main Thai temple in Bodhgaya is prettier, but further away.

Bodh Gaya has several monasteries; Thai monastery is one of them. With a sloping roof covered with golden tiles, the temple architecture looks beautiful. This monastery exhibits the colors of the Thai culture and tradition. Also, home to a Thai Temple, the monastery has a big bronze statue of Lord Buddha, the ambience was peaceful. The entire complex is well-maintained.

The whole area is a little piece of Thailand in the heart of Bodh Gaya!
Adjacent to the temple, there's a coffee shop, a hospital and a place to get a massage. The 2-hour massage costs INR 1500 (US$ 22), but you need to make an appointment.
On the day I went, the lady in charge of these massages wasn't there, so someone else took down my details and the lady called me back. For this to work, of course, you need to have an Indian cell number! I did get the 2-hour massage and it was quite refreshing, especially give the stifling heat.

The Thai monastery is a living testimony to the fact that Budh gaya is truly an international Buddhist landscape in India. Thai monastery is situated closer to the Archaeological Survey museum. Just enter the premises and you will get a feeling that you are in Bangkok rather than in India. Most of the time the temple is empty with priests as it happens beyond the Buddhist chanting hours. You will enjoy the architecture, statue style and frescoes of Thai Buddhists. Many devotees who come from India and abroad who have not been to Thailand will definitely enjoy the monastery. No entrance fee and you may cover it in 15 minutes .

Thai temple is in a small park with typical thai architecture. The garden and
grounds make for calm and quiet with only a few visitors there.

I visited here with a group of 12 Australian Buddhists. The place was deserted. I spoke to an attendant and informed him we were on a Buddhist pilgrimage and asked if we could meditate in the temple. He said no. I enquired why and he said because we were not Thai.
It is very rare to see any actual Buddhist practice in these institutionalised golden showcases of nationalism.

As one Buddhist, having a conversation with monks in the Thai monastery has relieved my concerns and all worries I had. This place environment, construction reminded me of the temples of Thailand.
