Buddha prayed here after his enlightenment. Its believed that the “Shesh Naag” or The big snake 🐍 protected Buddha from the rain and heavy storm. I’m not sure if it’s the same Naag that Hindus also worship... but there’s no doubt all religions must be...More

When visiting the Mahabodhi temple and the Bodhi tree, make a stop at the Muchalinda lake to view the statue of the Buddha in the middle of the lake being protected from the elements by the serpent Muchalinda. Beware of "monks" begging for money; unclear...More

This lake is easy to miss if you're carried away amidst the crowd entering Mahabodhi temple. This is on the left side of the temple and needs you to figure out the pathway amidst several levels of pathways around the trees.
