The Great Buddha Statue was placed in 1989 in presence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. This Statue is in meditation pose or 'Dhyana Mudra' seated on a lotus in open air. The statue is made of red granite and sandstone blocks and is possibly the largest built Buddha statute in India. It is surrounded by 10 smaller sculptures of Buddha’s disciples.

If you are interested in Photography, you should visit this sight in morning hours to have favourable sun light. More details can be asked on Tel.No. + 631-2200-747 or E-mail: daijokyotemple_bg@yahoo.co.in

Introduction: A breath-taking view and a wonderful place to put on your itinerary. It is one of the largest statues (not sure if the only one, 80ft.) in India. Built in 1989, by 14th Dalai Lama, you will find the place mesmerizing, clean and quite tempting to rest and relax.

Personal Note: This is a famous spot for Buddhist Pilgrimage and tourists. It would not take more than 1 hour to cover this place. It is open from 7AM to 12PM and then from 2PM to around 6PM, so plan accordingly, for which I will suggest avoid the sun. Your itinerary for the day can be, Mahabodhi Temple in the morning followed by lunch and then, around 4 to this place.

Nearby Places: It is near to Mahabodhi Temple, Bhutan Monaestry and a few temples.

Time: It will take not more than 1 hour to cover this place.

For any queries, you can post the question below; I would love to assist you. Also, if you found my review helpful, don’t forget to give a helpful vote.

One of the few places that we could enjoy despite it being locked for visitors . We actually walked round the perimeter , looking at it from all sides were amazed with the simplistic beauty of the statue of buddha and his followers

The giant buddha >85 feet tall is situated less than 1km from Bodhgaya old town centre. It is an impressive structure built for the japanese buddhists inside a small
park.

This magnificent statue is located at the wrong place because its serenity and aesthetics are spoilt by high tension power lines right behind it. Has no historical value.

Saw this amazing statue this morning. It took 30 years to build and about 18 different sculpturs. With trees lining a short avenue, a most impressive entrance.

The sheer sight of that magnificent radiant visage makes us realise how puny we mortals really are. And the disciples surrounding the massive Buddha are very impressive.

Loads of school excursions get there all day long, and to see the children getting amazed by the size of the statue is one more attraction. It opens at 7 and it closes at the end of the afternoon. Most of temples close at lunchtime, but Great Buddha was open and it takes around 15 minutes walking from Mahabodhi Temple. It's also for free :)
