Nice enough tourist stop close to a large man made lake used to irrigate land so does not come as close to the main area as it once did. People were having to walk quite away for a boat trip but did look very nice with the blue sky and sun shining. There is also horse rides and sand surfing. The oasis area has a number of souvenir displays as well as a cafe and ice cream seller. Plus clean up facilities. Main draw is 3 small waterfalls which many people dip their feet in at the top and also fish. The area is popular with locals as a break from the usual busy cities or a beach. It is a likeable area that may not look overly special but is quite nice and there are other areas to visit close by to make a visit here part of a day out. The only complaint for me is the quality of the roads which aren’t finished to get here and beyond. Some parts are horrendous while other parts are recently resurfaced.

Average experience. I definitely would NOT come only to see the waterfalls. We left this site for last. SO MANY people - very commercial. The walk to the lake is littered with trash and horse droppings.
In my opinion, you could definitely skip this site...

From the movies, I always thought an oasis was a spring in the middle of the desert with a couple palm trees around it. Well this place is huge! A very cool end to our day four wheeling through the desert to an overlook of Magic Lake and the oasis.

A great spot you reach within your safari trip located almost 50 km into the desert , real fossils for ancient whales , you can see millions of years in front of your eyes better to be there in the early early morning cause it’s really hot after 11 am

Superb site, well run and protected. Wadi el Hitan is a must see. The waterfall is utterly forgettable. Tell your 4WD driver to stay on track.

Myself and daughter are coming to cairo in September & was wanting to hire a 4X4 self drive for a day and drive through fayoum oasis and to wadi el-rayan & magic lake.
Please can anyone tell me if it is safe and possible for us to do this as we would rather travel independently rather than on an organised tour, as to avoid the crowds. Plus we prefer to explore by ourselves.
Also, I'm having trouble trying to find a safari 4X4 to hire for a self drive... only suv's 😏 cam anyone please help with any recommendations?
Also, can we just turn up and pay someone to sandboard and kayak?
Thank you 😊

Wir würden Wadi el-Rayan gerne auf eigene Faust besichtigen.
Geht es mit einem normalen Mietwagen oder braucht man einen Allradantrieb?

I want to goto Wadi El Rayan. I live and work in Cairo and need recommendations for any reliable car service and is it advisable to go in the month of April citing summers and high temperature ? Also is safety a concern?
