known to be Ptolemaic temple (323 -30 BC) but has not been dated more precisely due to the absence of inscriptions. Built of blocks of yellow limestone, it is substantially complete, although the exterior has been partially restored by the Antiquities Department, and parts of the internal structure have been reinforced. it appears small from the outside , but inside is a veritable maze of chambers , corridors , cellars , tunnels , stairways , upper rooms , of all sizes at different levels , and numerous nooks and crannies , making it a fascinating place to explore . There are no inscriptions, but over the entrance flies the winged sun, and on the roof (reached by either of two square spiral staircases) is a relief of two figures: the crocodile god sobek on the left, a king on the right. there is a good view from the roof , of the desert to south and west , the cultivated land to the north and east , and the desert escarpment and ( sometimes , depending on the light ) the Birka to the

It was really interesting to visit this place and know about our country’s history and heritage. I consider this place as one of the hidden gems in Fayyoum.
It is also very close to the city and doesn’t need much time to reach there.

If u love history and archaeology u will like this temple. it is empty from inside so all is left to ur imagination.
next to is an unexcavated area which the italian univeristy of siena is to uncover it soon (hopefully)
what saddened me was the encroaching slum area (with its garbage site) on the archaeological site .
when we got there the place seemed closed but we went in and asked to visit and they opened it for us.

I t is a great place to visit in Fayoum oasis, The temple carry the same name of Qaroun lake, its view on the lake is a great view, the columns, the walls are still in a good condition, It is great to visit it during day tours to Whales valley or to Wadi El Rayan in FAYOUM OASIS

We visited Qasr Qarun while touring Fayoum Oasis area & the Wadi’s Al-Hitan & Al-Rayan. There are so many very special sites like this one in Egypt that only the fervent Egyptology crowd knows about. Quite interesting.

The place is a must see location, the view from above is great and the building itself is amazing, there is not much to do there but being is such an ancient and huge location is very intriguing for the mind

Some say this is one of the palace owned by Pharaoh. Other claim this belongs to Tarun, the richest man during his time. The lake nearby is where all his assets are believed to be buried. The building is five storey high but two of them are buried underneath.

The palace and Quta village tell an important part of history, but they are neglected. they can be improved to offer a better attraction and be properly placed on the tourism map.
