We are doing a tour of the Egypt oasis and in Fayoum we went with Mahamoud to see the whale desert and the sorroundings. He is an excellent guide and explained many details. We went to see the only water falls of Egypt and than to the whale desert which is an Unesco site but very few people know it. He suggested to leave the hotel at 5 am as being August, it would have been too hard to walk under the sun and it was a great idea. We were the only ones on site and the place is amazing, it is an open air museum with skeletons of mammals anywhere, plus there is a little museum in a building giving more info and with a big skeleton inside. We walked for approx 5km to see everything till a panorama point where you can see all the valley. Than we went to see the magic lake and again it was gorgeous. I would recommend to do this tour with Mahamoud as it is extremely important to have such a profesdional guide with you to let you know the history behind everything we saw

We were very lucky to have chosen Mahmoud for our desert safari trip in Fayoum and Wadi Hitan. We had a great day with him and his Bedouin driver Talaat. The day was full of fun, knowledge and the excursion was FLAWLESS.

We visited/did: Wadi Hitan, magic lake, waterfalls, Tunis village (pottery shops), birdwatching, sandboarding, sunset watching, singing and even Bedouin dancing lessons. We had a nice lunch in wadi hitan and tea in the mudawara mountain.

I absolutely recommend Mahmoud for your visits in Fayoum as he is an educated local guide who seems to really like his "job" and offers great entertainment and knowledge.

He was the best of the 4 tour guides we worked with during our stay in Egypt.

Thank you Mahmoud, we hope to meet you again sometime!

We traveled as a group of 6 ladies for 2 days and we can recommend Mahmoud The Fayoumer and his team very much. Mahmoud is an excellent and very knowledgeable guide and speaks excellent English. Amongst other sites we visited Wadi Al-Hitan (whale valley) which contains100s of now extinct fossil remains. Wadi El Rayan with two separate lakes and the only waterfalls in Egypt was also a highlight. Driving around the sand dunes was fun with the very skilled drivers Thalat and Ragab. We like to thank Mahmoud and his team.

We had an absolutely fantastic time with Mahmoud on the Fayoum Countryside and Artisans tour! I found the company online and contacted Mahmoud via WhatsApp for availability, tours and prices. His communication from the very start was amazing, and he even helped sort out transfers for us from Cairo to our accommodation in Tunis Village (and back) at a much cheaper price than we were quoted elsewhere. The tour itself was exactly the sort of thing we were looking for and gave a real sense of the livelihoods and culture of this part of Egypt. After pickup from our hotel, we started with a visit to Nazla village and were introduced to a style of pottery using the ground which is only used in this place. We were able to see how the pottery is created, where the materials come from and how the pottery is used (even the buildings are made from the pots in this area!). They were immensely talented and more than happy to answer our questions. We then visited Mohammed who makes chairs and other furniture from palm fronds and sells them on. What he created was beautiful and he worked with such skill and knowledge which was incredible to watch. Unfortunately we weren't able to visit the plant nursery, but we went to a local temple dedicated to the God Sobek instead, before finishing with the pottery school in Tunis Village and some history on this style of pottery in the area and a demonstration on how it is produced. Mahmoud was an exceptional guide, with a huge amount of knowledge of the area and a lovely guy. We had a wonderful time on this tour and would encourage anyone visiting the area to do it!

Mahmoud was an excellent companion and guide - very knowledgable and attentive, and took great care to organise an itinerary that met the needs of our whole family, including a wriggly 5 year old. Everything he organised ran perfectly to time and his driver partners were kind and punctual. We would absolutely recommend his services.

I highly recommend booking a Fayoum tour with Mahmoud Kamel! His passion for the history of this area is unmatched. We began our day with a delicious breakfast followed by a visit to Wadi el-Hitan. I could not imagine touring this site without Mahmoud--he's incredibly knowledgable about the environmental history of the Fayoum, from prehistory to present. Then we took an adventurous drive around the desert with the option to stop and sand board. In Tunis Village, our friend took a pottery lesson with Ibrahim Samir. We visited many studios to see the local artistic talent and purchased lots of beautiful pottery. We ended the day at Ibis Restaurant, which has great food and an even better atmosphere. Overall it was an unforgettable experience, and I look forward to sharing it with my family next trip to Egypt!

It was a very memorable trip with an experienced guide who showed professionalism in sharing the unique desert experience with my family. My four children immensely enjoyed sand-boarding on the dunes around the Magic Lake while my husband and I took some phenomenal photos of the scenery. The landscape was breathtaking. It was a trip worth taking.

Our guide Fares showed great care to make our stay wonderful and safe while giving our kids some heart-pumping adventure in the 4WD. Our kids loved every minute of it. Fares even cooked an authentic Bedouin meal for our family. Do not forget to try the minty Bedouin tea!

Along the shores of the lake, local Bedouin boys approached to sell some small trinkets, and we bought a few items as souvenirs (try to buy some small stuff, if you can, to support the local community) — and please remember to keep the environment clean, and tourism sustainable. The only things we should leave are footprints. The only stuff we should take are memories.

Trip was on 23 April 2022. (Photos show our son playing on the sand and Fares while driving his reliable 4WD car).

Mahmoud is an excellent guide and organised a fantastic day tour of Wadi Rayan National Park. We wanted to start early to avoid the heat of the day, and Mahmoud and his driver Tahlat were very accomodating and picked us up at 6.30am. We started the day with breakfast while watching the sun rise over the lower lake which was so beautiful and peaceful. We then headed to the whale valley and Mahmoud gave a very detailed and informative overview of the evolution of the area, including the discovery of the fossils and the setting up of the Wadi El-Hitan UNESCO site. The outdoor museum is extremely well curated but we definitely needed Mahmoud to provide the detail on each exhibit.
After a delicious lunch, we then headed to some panoramic views of the lakes, sandboarding and some Bedouin tea by Magic Lake. Mahmoud has an extensive knowledge of the Fayoum area and could answer any question with significant detail - and no question was too silly to ask! I loved hearing about his Masters research into the area, and look forward to this contribution to the understanding of the human past in the Fayoum area. Thanks too to Tahlat for answering all my questions about Bedouin culture. I will definitely be returning to Fayoum and will be booking another tour with Mahmoud.

We spent a busy and glorious day with Mahmoud and his driver Faris, as we segued into two weeks in Egypt. Mahmoud is not only supremely knowledgeable about the sites and history of the area, but exudes a love of Faiyum and all it has to offer. We will always remember the joy of jamming to Bedouin music while cross-crossing the desert. We did Wadi el Hitan, the lakes, and Medinat Madi all in one day, and Mahmoud was very accommodating in shaping an itinerary to suit my archaeologist husband.
