33 degrees out doors. . We wrapped up warm, and we studied the nice trail maps that are located around and figured out how to read the map. It is so easy to me teaching a 3 year old something all the time. Understanding the colored map trails is a skill some of my adult friends don't understand. We walk the trail, talk and listen, sometimes see animals, but always there is something to learn. Head into the visitor center and we played for 2 hours with the animal puppets and learned about animal behaviors. The center is nice and clean, great restrooms, always an added plus when the people there engage with us. We got to touch a live turtle today. When you are 3 years old, all of these experiences are great. !! and I got my exercise in also. Have fun.

We went to Midland for a long weekend in October. Chippewa Nature Ctr was a wonderful surprise, First of all it was free!. The trails were easy to follow and the fall colors were perfect. While the farmstead was ready for winter, there were still edible plants in the garden, chickens, pigs & a cow in pens. It really gave you a feel of how life must have been 150 years ago. We want to go back in the early summer.

Didn't know what to expect, the reviews were somewhat vague. This is a gem for naturalists. Miles of well marked trails, river walks, marshes, fields and a small farm. Maple sugaring. The indoor visitors center is a tiny wonderland for kids. Flycasting and kayaking on the river. A great bike trail that apparently runs into the lovely town of Midland. Perfect birding spot. Come and reclaim your inner calm. And its free.

We visited CNC on a whim one Saturday, driving from about 1hr 20 minutes away. It was totally worth it. We thought we would only spend about an hour here but ended up spending 4 hours, just in the nature center itself. We can't wait to go back and see the rest of the attractions. We had a 6, 4, and 1 year old who enjoyed the kids activity area and all of the nature focused kids activities throughout the facility. The nature museum portion was educational and fun. We spend quite some time watching the wildlife scurry around and through the river via the vista provided by the 180 degree glass enclosed viewing area. There are also 6 push-button videos on a flat screen TV in a little side room. Each video is about 4 minutes or less so they are easily enjoyed and can hold a child's attention. The gift shop area was nice as well. While we were there, a live turtle exhibition took place with one of the nature guides out in front of the building. If we lived closer we would return often, if for no other reason than just to take in the scenery.
