Located about 15 to 20 minutes north of Menominee, the West Shore Fishing Museum is a great educational experience. Not only is there the historic restored Bailey home and other out buildings filled with historic native and fishing artifacts, there are lovely gardens, hiking trails and scenic views across the bay. There are also 5 commercial fishing boats on display and a not to be missed vintage gift shop. The center offers workshops and special events from Memorial Day through Labor Day. It is run by volunteers and can also be viewed by appointment.

Everyone is a volunteer and boy they know their stuff and it also is handicapped friendly! We walked and started with the boats and Lake Michigan! They have a cute gift shop and a amazing house who was owned by the family who donated the land to make sure the shoreline was preserved as they were the Fishers of the area! The yard has a beautiful flower garden and area to picnic. They even sell plants to any who want them! Also plenty of parking! Fun for young, old, families, its really a very beautiful and historical place and really off the beaten path! Love it there!!

This is a great place to get out and stretch your legs in addition to leaning a little about the commercial fishing that took place in the area. It's a free educational opportunity. All volunteers that we interacted with were absolutely wonderful and knowledgeable. It was a great experience and I highly suggest stopping in.
