About
We offer a 40 minute tour of the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. We have a vehicle that holds about 20 people that goes on a seven mile trail in the dunes. We stop at Lake Michigan or Silver Lake for a few minutes for pictures and to enjoy the view.

This is a really fun way to see the dunes. The driver was entertaining, combining humorous comments with information about the dunes and environment. A great balance of fun, educational, and just a little bit of thrill-ride that kept the teens in our group happy. We had a group of 9 and they were able to accommodate us pretty quickly with no problem (It was about a 45-minute wait, but I was actually surprised how fast it went because they were BUSY.) It's also a great option for those who may not be physically able to climb the dunes - we had the option to walk down the dune to the lake or stay at the top and enjoy the view depending on what we were comfortable with.

If you visit the area, you must take this tour. $20 a person for a roughly 40 minute trip through the beautiful Silver Lake Dunes. Driver was nice and personable and the trip was awesome.

This place was wonderful. The staff was well trained in keeping us sanitary and safe. They had excellent safety procedures in place, everyone wore masks and we had such an enjoyable experience. My son has autism and has sensory issues with wearing a mask so he yelled a lot during the experience but the driver couldn't have been nicer and more patient with him. He was so solicitous of my son and if he was having a good time or not. Being a parent of a child with autism can be a challenge especially when aren't happy with their situation. He was a very knowledgeable tour guide too and the dunes were beautiful. The people on our ride were really nice too and very helpful. All my kids had a fabulous time and I would recommend Mac Wood's to anyone who visits Silver Lake .

So we’ve visited this area for a number of years, and MAC Woods is a constant pleasure. This year, as with everything, is a little different. I appreciate the COVID 19 precautions they are making, wearing a mask the whole ride (however saw a couple that didn’t comply with this?), and you can tell they clean after each group, which really should be done anyhow. My only complaint is they really do not adhere to limited capacity, social distancing methods, or even try to limit the number of folks on the rides. I understand that revenue in a relatively short season, is hard to come by, and they need to try to get as many through as possible. However, two small things would make a huge difference 1. Keep it a one family per row standard. Even if only 2-3 people. 2. Give riders a CHOICE to be seated next to someone else or NOT. I’d also like to see an every other row seating, but realize that may be hard to maintain operations. When the entire country, restaurants, bars not even open in many cases, capacity limited to 50% at most entertainment venues, MAC Woods is sadly not doing this. We had an enjoyable ride, my family of 3 was thankfully not asked to seat share, which I would have refused, and as always it’s fun to listen to the drivers. But please consider stepping up your protocols for future riders safety and health.

First, they forgot to put us on the list, so our wait was long. Our driver didn’t seem into it- maybe having an “off” day? You only get EIGHT MINUTES to explore and take pics on the Lake Michigan shoreline. They never let us off ON the dunes. The ride, the info/history was all great. Would still do this again!

We were visiting from South Carolina and this was a real treat for us. The kids loved the excitement of going up and down the dunes. The views are beautiful and liked how the driver stopped at Lake Michigan for everyone to get out and take pictures.

What a great way to spend some family time. I would recommend it for everyone to try at least once (bet you’ll want to come back).
I forget what our drivers name was but she was the greatest interacting with everyone especially with the youngsters that were on the ride.

The driver (Steve) was personable and had a sense of humor. We had one person in our group who was from Florida and had no concept of how large the Great Lakes were. Steve was full of information and made the ride an adventure.

Loads of fun! Informative and entertaining at the same time, it's a wonderful opportunity to see the incredible sand dunes along Lake Michigan without getting sand in your clothes. Walter, our driver was funny and a wonderful interpretative guide.
Big thumbs up!

If you are a first timer on the dunes and are not confident about maneuvering them on your own, then this is very good option. The tour is approx 40 min going up and down the dunes. The drivers are friendly and tell you about the dunes. The highlight is the 10 min beach halt so would recommend you to wear slippers on this trip.

We are considering this while in the area. I read one review that said it's a rather smooth ride. Can anyone confirm, because one person in my group has sciatica and I don't want anything to be bumpy. Thx.

It’s a very smooth ride, no bumps at all. We were surprised. Plenty of hills and beautiful views you can’t get from the dunes everyone gets to ride on. The tour was well worth it.

o, but there are lots of things to do in the area if you can come back another day or if it is a questionable day.

Is there a place we can have a picnic lunch either here or nearby? Also we have 18-20 people, do we need a reservation or can we get in pretty easily mid day on a Saturday?
Written July 14, 2017
There is a state park close by on the lake and there is a cute little park with a picnic pavilion in town.
It would be a very good idea to make a reservation for a large group, especially on a weekend

Is this something someone with heart condition can ride?
Written June 2, 2017
It can be compared to a roller coaster at times. The ride is smoother sitting in the front seat of the vehicle, compared to the back seat. It is a family ride, which we take all ages on. Hope this helps.
