Beautiful lighthouse and an even better beach
Oct 2021
This is a beautiful lighthouse with a long and storied history; however, it was closed when we visited early in October. Fortunately, they can't close the beach. As an ardent swimmer who derives sheer joy from swimming, especially in Lake Michigan, not even the slight chill of early October could keep me out of the water on this gorgeous stretch of beach. That I was the only person, other than the kite boarders, in the water did not detract in the least from the spiritual experience of a long swim in the, er, refreshing waters of the lake in this breathtaking setting. While my wife is not a swimmer, she loves sitting on the beach with her book, taking in the sights, smells, sounds, and general spiritual and physical renewal that the majestic waterfront of Lake Michigan provides.
We have enjoyed every beach we have visited on the eastern shores of Lake Michigan. Being from the Chicago area, we most often visit New Buffalo, Warren Dunes, St. Joseph, and other beaches in Harbor Country. While we are ardent fans of all those places, and the beach town atmosphere, especially of New Buffalo, is hard to beat, the actual beach at Little Sable Beach House trumps them all, at least from an aesthetic standpoint. We look forward to revisiting this beach, and other beaches to its north, in the coming years.

Beautiful views from the top!

It's a must see. This is a working lighthouse. Two very knowledgeable people were there to give a history and answer any questions. There are 130 steps and two hatches to go through, but so worth it!

Beautifully restore historic lighthouse on Lake Michigan near Silver Lake Sand Dunes. It's a great spot to watch the sun set. You will need a Michigan State Park pass to visit.

Little piece of bliss
Sep 2021
What an absolute gem! We have been climbing lighthouses since 1995 and this is our first in Michigan. Absolutely loved the staff and the quaint gift shop/ticket booth. The view is definitely worth the climb...130 steps. Dave, the ticket taker, was in a keepers uniform!

Historic Lighthouse

Beautiful, historic lighthouse. Buy your tickets near the parking lot for $8 a person. Climb to the top and take in all the views. I went solo to the top, and it’s a tight climb. Definitely worth it if you’re at the beach (which is very nice).

Went by after dune ride

We had just been on a dune ride and at the end of the ride our driver mentioned that this lighthouse was very close and we should stop by. We went afterwards, decided not to climb it, but it’s beautiful right on the beach.

My husband and I were driving around Lake Michigan on vacation. This was a scenic stop. It is a short walk to the lighthouse and beach. We did not climb the lighthouse. Just took a few pictures and left. We purchased a non-resident pass which allowed access to all state parks in Michigan. I recommend getting one if you plan to visit more than one park. It is much cheaper to get the pass.

Expensive

If you're going for beach access or already have a state park pass then it's probably worth the price. Otherwise between the cost of the pass and the $8 to climb the lighthouse makes it costly in comparison to the experience. It is a beautiful beach and lighthouse.

Must see lighthouse on Lake Michigan beach.
Apr 2021
One of the "Castles of the New World" - while not an all-day visit, it is certainly worth the stop to visit this classic, tapered cylindrical Light House on the sandy shore of Lake Michigan. Much more sand has blown in around the lighthouse than older photos depict - the dunes themselves are a significant part of the appeal. It is especially great if you come during the summer season on a day when the lighthouse is open for tours to the top.
