Marshall was Almost the capital of Michigan
Mar 2020
We visited the governor's Mansion Museum with a group of parents and students from Three Rivers outreach program. The guide did an excellent job on the tour. She showed many items from the 1800s. We toured the entire house for about 1.5 hours. especially interesting were the kitchen items, and also all of the items dealing with horses. Our group had all ages, and they all enjoyed it. A specialtreat was the passage from the upstairs to the cook's quarters.

Governor’s Mansion

Take a tour and learn the history of this very well preserved museum. Roam through the mansion and learn the history as told by your guide. Great for the entire family and history buffs. Look around and discover all this piece if history has to offer.

Step back in time

I enjoy touring the museum. The mansion has been restored to take you back to when it was built. The individuals who volunteer do a great job and are knowledgable about its history.

A Rich History of Marshall
Jul 2018 • Couples
Free Admission (they accept donations). Parking lot in the back of the building. A free guided tour is provided with a rich history of the home, Capitol Hill area, Michigan and Marshall in general.

It was very intriguing and much more than I have expected. Unfortunately they did not have much from the original owner, but they did have a lot of antiques and period pieces. The house is much bigger on the inside than it looked from the street. The guided tour really made this something special and we enjoyed it.

If you are looking for an interesting place to do a special event, I guess they rent this place out.

I went there for a DAR meeting in honor of my Mother.

The Governor's Manson is a Beautiful Home, I sometimes also visit it during the Marshall Home Tour. When I was active in the Children of the American Revolution we would have our meetings there.

Worth a Stop
Oct 2016 • Couples
This is really an interesting stop if you're touring Maarshall, MI museums. The stairs are quite steep, however, and if you can't climb those, you will miss some interesting rooms upstairs.

REALLY enjoyed the ghost hunt!!
Dec 2015 • Couples
Went ghost hunting here a year ago January and it was great. The museum to me is a lot like any historical society museum but it was the opportunity to ghost hunt that offered a novel way to enjoy the history. Please offer it again soon!

Spirited tour of the ghostly kind!
Feb 2015 • Couples
The Governor's Mansion offered a fund raising ghostly encounter evening in February, which my husband and I participated in. It was a fascinating time. A small group of paying visitors were given the run of the place-from the basement to the attic. A woman with supernatural abilities showed us how to use crystals to communicate with the myriad of spirits that have been known to roam the halls.

Although our crystal did move numerous times throughout the two hour visit, we at no time felt uncomfortable or unwelcomed. It was fascinating to tour the rooms, and to get an up close look at the artifacts found throughout the structure. I would recommend this experience to anyone.

If you are participating during the day, in their regular home tour, I would say the tour would take about an hour. There is a short 2 minute video of it on Youtube. Just type in Governors Mansion, Marshall MI

DAR of Marshall's pride and joy
Sep 2014 • Friends
The DAR of Marshall own, operate and lovingly care for this piece of Michigan history. The beautiful Greek Revival structure was home to the 3rd Governor of Michigan and sits across from what could have been the State's capital. It would have been home to future governors if Lansing had not been chosen over Marshall to be the capital. One of the best things about touring this house is you are allowed to go upstairs and even go through the tiny door to the servants' quarters. There are also great clothing displays and historic information contained in the house. The DAR uses it for their meetings and it is also a public museum. We visit nearly every year when we attend the Historic Homes Tour. If you are in town be sure to stop by.

Nice tour but the home is a work in progress
Jul 2014 • Couples
Our guide was very knowledgeable and enjoyed giving us the tour. We called to schedule the tour, and she met us on our schedule. We learned so much and saw parts of the home that most homes have closed off so we were able to see the the original home before additions. The DAR is doing a great job refurbishing this place with the limited funds they have, so they are continuing to improve and restore. Very interesting tour.
