Looking for something to do on a rainy day when visiting Marquette? Consider checking out the DeVos Art Museum on the NMU campus. A nice way to spend 45 minutes while you wait for the weather to change (and it changes often here in the U.P.!).

This is a great little art museum. Our son always takes us here to see what new exhibits are up and what the students are working on!

To be truthful, I initially considered giving a rating of 2/5. But some of my disappointment may have been tied to poor timing. When I visited, the main exhibit was artwork from the area school children. And while some of the children are very talented, and the quilt made of self-portaits of the students (and portraits of teaching/school staff), I was hoping for more accomplished classical/modern artwork. There was a separate room with about 25 items from the permanent collection, and I thoroughly enjoyed those. More of the permanent collection would have made this visit more worthwhile to me.

Considering where this museum is located, they have surprisingly sophisticated shows.
Now up is an Israeli woman metalworker- combines metal with photos of refugee camps. In upper Michigan?
Good for them to show art like this.

Gorgeous museum with a great selection of art that is constantly changing. I went during an open house so there was food and drinks, plus I got to talk with the student artists, that was fun!

It is a nice stop if you are in the area but not worth driving very far for as it doesn't take long to go through.

We visited on a Sunday and not many visitors so we leisurely strolled the museum. We saw some of the regular collection and a temporary collection. This was a nice hour of piece and quiet. The art is different and varied. We enjoy Art and found this fun.

This university run museum is wonderful. Consistently changing exhibits make it more of a gallery, but that's fine. The annual "North of the 45th" show draws talent from near and far, and always displays some incredible talent. Occasionally a music venue as well, it's been host to some breathtaking performances.
