About
The Mariner was built in 1927, it was converted from it’s original use as a movie palace and vaudeville theater in the 1970s. It served as a plaza filled with unique shops and was later converted to office space. In addition to live music on stage and movies, the Mariner now includes an art gallery, and eclectic stores that provides a narrative shopping experience. The stage at the Mariner offers space from art exhibitions, sit down activities, special events, presentations and more.

The Mariner has a rich community history as it was home to a movie palace and vaudeville theater until the 1970's Now it houses the Titanic exhibit as well as a wonderful collection of other special & unique items.

A member of my family was recently honored in a documentary about the Hello Girls of World War l. The documentary was shown in the Mariner Theatre which is now run by the lovely and gracious Laura Scaccia. The showing was a complete success and the venue itself is a star. The Mariner is not only a theatre but also a museum. The replica model of the Titanic is only one of the amazing sights in this gem. Clocks, model cars, houses, replicas...the place is a treasure. If you get to to this lovely little town on the St. Clair River, be sure to visit the Mariner.

We read about this place and Marine City in a Detroit Free Press Column. The Mariner was highlighted and truly deserved the recognition. Although only open on weekends, if you call ahead they will open for any sized party (we were 4). For $8 per person it was a great tour of various models, clocks, furniture, toys and a dolls house. The Titanic model is fabulous and the accompanying short movie and posted information and pictures make for a well rounded exhibit. There are artifacts from the 2 Boblo Boats which used to cruise the Detroit River. Flags from the boats are on display as well. Really a wonderful attraction in a very cute town on the banks of the St. Clair River.

We had the opportunity to be entertained at The Mariner Theater where a film titled The Great Alone was being featured - a documentary about Lance Mackey, four-time winner of the Iditarod. The filmmaker happens to be the son of the theater owner. Apparently the film is being shown around the U.S., so we're not talking just an elaborate home movie. This was an Indie-type film and well made.

Our friends said the theater seated only 48 persons. It was even a greater surprise to experience the seating: 2 seats, aisle, 2 seats across. I think the room is about 12x 50 feet long. Though a small room, the movie "screen" and sound system were excellent. This boutique theater is quaint, to say the least. Free popcorn, relaxed atmosphere, and intimate setting. Not a bad seat in the house. An additional treat are the ads from the 1930's and 40's that were run during that era.

The theater also houses sophisticated museums, to include recreations of the Titanic. Unfortunately the galleries were closed, but we understand they, too, are impressive.

Before the movie, we dined at the fish restaurant just down the street, which was also very good.

Fun evening. Can't wait to go back to enjoy Marine City AND The Mariner Theater.

A great lunch and service. The mussels and the broth were excellent—the bread made dipping outstanding. All the fish entrees were fresh and well prepared. Would like to go back.

What a find in this small town. Main attraction is Builder's Model of The Titanic built from original plans. Fascinating detail and history. Lots of other scale models plus a small theater that can be rented out for special occasions. Thx to our innkeepers for suggesting it.

We visited on recommendation of people we were camping with. Main attraction is an enormous exact scale model, beautifully executed from the original Harland and Wolff blueprints, of RMS Titanic. I cannot do justice to the artistry and talent displayed in this model. You can see my head above the middle as an indication of size. Individual deck planks, every rivet where the blueprints called for it, working davits and block and tackle, accurate rigging in every detail.

There are other equally stunning models on display, many for sale. If you have a spare $38k you can have a model of an early Mercedes roadster that will make your teeth hurt from the beauty of it.

An odd and eclectic collection. If you are in the area and ever assembled a plastic Revell ship model in your younger days, you have to see this. Well worth the time and admission.
