Great local talent

I loved a leisurely browse and bought a couple of gifts. Prices were reasonable. Worth the stop. Something for everyone here.

Manistique Art
Jul 2019 • Friends
This is a gem in downtown Manistique. Get off of US 2, park and enjoy a local experience! Entering downtown you will note two massive colorful murals covering entire building sides. One on each side of the street. They are worth seeing. The mural with the trumpeter swan and monarch butterfly will eventually be the new home of the Art Gallery. For now the Gallery is just a little further down. Walk past Tap 21 with the ornate wooden bar heralding back to yesteryear..beautiful architecture (and craft beers). Also note the Cedar Street cafe..bare brick walls, high ceilings and hanging art. The Lake Effect Art Gallery is your destination. Local artist’s works are displayed..fiber, paintings, pottery, jewelry. So much talent, reasonable prices and an authentic tourist gift to take home! Manistique is a work in process on the shore of beautiful Lake Michigan with buildings heralding from the turn of the twentieth century, built when lumber was king. Slow down, get off the UP expressway (aka..US 2) and immerse yourself in architecture and local artists.

Looked through here for a few minutes one afternoon. Their selection was nice and prices on artisan wares varied. Definitely worth a stop.

A very nice retail goods store and small gallery. Purchase a couple of unique items you would never find in any big box store or larger gallery.

Lotsa Local Art
Jul 2015 • Friends
When we travel we always seek out local art. When at home near this gallery, we enjoy taking visitors and also buying gifts. Wide variety of mediums from needlecraft to small pieces of furniture carved from beaver branch discards to basketry to pieces utilizing dear antlers. Winters are l-o-n-g here, so artists make good use off that time by perfecting their art, from painting to needlework to wood sculpting or photography, and everything in between. Check the closing times and come when all those winter creations are exhibited.

You have to stop here on your way through Manistique! If you are looking for an inexpensive or an expensive gift you find both. There is a great selection of local artistry to purchase from pottery, photography, oil paintings, and really cool jewelry. I buy many of my gifts for friends and family here.
