What a fun way to gather friends and family to see the beauty the waters of Michigan has to offer! The youngest in our group was 4 and oldest was 81. We were all having a blast together. This will be one of those memories we’ll treasure as friends and family…An unusual and very awesome way to see the Upper Peninsula & the waterways of Manistique MI. We will be back!

It was a nice sunny day. The tour guide told us that the water was cold 40 degrees and I put on a full wetsuit as a result. I was glad I did. We were in the area of Kitch Iti Kipi when I flipped over. Because of the soft river bed, the moment that I flipped, I sank to the bottom of my life jacket in what felt like quicksand. The guide was away from the paddlers and didn't realize I had flipped. Someone got his attention because he wasn't paying attention. When he finally figured out that I was in danger, he slowly paddled over to me. I was already halfway into m self rescue. He asked me what he should do as if he didn't know how to assist in a rescue. I had to tell him how to help me. So first he wasn't aware of his paddlers to see that one had flipped and second he didn't know how to help. I was ok as I was taught to self rescue. It would not have been the same result with someone who couldn't. Further on in the tour, he turns to us and said "I'm not too familiar with this part of the river." If you are a guide, you know where you are taking your paddlers and what it is like. That was problem number 3. After going though the part of the river he wasn't familiar with, on the way back, he allowed one of his paddlers to get out of sight or closeness to assist if needed because he was playing in the water making waves, again not paying attention to where he should be. We had some beginner kayakers and for that reason and others, he shouldn't have been making waves near these paddlers. He had no rescue gear with him in his kayak in case it was needed. I was glad I had the ability to not only self fescue, but could help others if needed too. It was not an experience where safety was the first and foremost for everyone involved. I don't recommend this tour company.

I had an opportunity to visit Manistique, Michigan this past summer. My entire family appreciated the friendly folks and the new campground facilities. We created some wonderful family memories at Blue Mystique, the local kayak outfitters, and enjoyed the Kayak view of the gorgeous shoreline. We will be visiting again this coming summer!

Thank you

Absolutely have to try it. Get out towards the lighthouse, loads of fun. Emily helped get us started and did a great job, despite our lack of experience.

The owner, Liz, has a rare gift for bringing people together, serving her community, and creating memorable experiences.

If you have an opportunity to stay after your float for an art activity, do so.

Our day at Blue-Mystique was the high point of our trip.
